So what shall I call this?

I recently won (in my pursuit of putting an LC shaped board inside a face-lifted Mac Classic II) both a Performa 460 and a Quadra 605. They both made it to me in working condition, but the 605's bottom case was shattered beyond repair in the shipping.

The 605 didn't have video when I first plugged it in, but I did a little reading here and found that the PRAM battery is important to the video on these. So, after a $7 trip to microcenter, I had a very nice working 36MB RAM/ 512k VRAM Q605 board in a badly-broken-bottomed case, and a working P460 (no extra RAM or VRAM, and that super-high-freq-squeal LCs that need caps make) and a 40 MB HD that I stole out of the Classic II and installed a tiny custom install of 7.5.3 on.

So I moved the nicer logic board into the nicer case bottom, put the tiny but functional hard drive in it, and put the very nice 605 top case on it to create a hybrid monster pizza-box thing. It has the angled stance of a 460/475, but the swelled skirts of a 605.

Looks weird. I might try to get the "Quadra 605" label off and put it in the place of the Performa's, and use the proper top.

I have one of these, and love that it is a Quadra. I had the same issue with the PRAM battery as well, just will not run without it!

I'd do this-convert it to a Performa 475, and then either swap the appropriate badge onto the 460's case top or use a true 475's top. The Q605 has the same board (as far as I know) as the P475-just remove the jumper near the hard disk connecter and the board will be recognised as a Performa 475.

I once took a P475 and a regular LC. Combined the two and had a P475 with an auto-inject FDHD mechanism. Left over was an LC that looked like an LCIII+. Worked pretty well in both cases (no, pun not intended).

Upon closer inspection of the 605 top it also got a good crack on the front floppy side corner. It has the 460 lid on it now with no badge at all. The 460 badge popped right off, but the 605 is welded on or something :)

I'm bringing the full 040 and Apple branded 1G drive over from a parts 950 I had lying about. Just need to up the VRAM and find 8.1 to put on there and I'll have the bees knees of pizza boxes. :lc:

Plus I love the little 10" 800x600 screen with it.

O1M: if I switch the jumpers I'd take it down to 25MHz from 33. I'm not that anxious to have it accurate :)
