Rework Station Help

Just picked this up to help with work around the shop.  Any of you guys use one of these have some pointers while using one of these?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/YIHUA-992DA-SMD-Hot-Air-Rework-Soldering-Station-with-smoke-absorber-/171357358332?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27e5b1c8fc

I picked it up locally for 105$, thought it was nifty looking and would come in handy.

Has anyone used something like this for recaps?  I was hoping the hot air gun could help with the surface mount capacitors and tantalum replacements.  I gotta look into solder "paste" I think thats what I should be using.  Like I said, any help would be appreciated!

TIA

1. You should heat up the board before using it to minimize heat shock / possible warping...

2. The highest setting is not always what you should use :)

3. Try not to hold it in the same place for to long or the board will be ruined! (It will start to turn dark)

1.  Noted

2.  Def. Not, I have been using both the soldering iron and heat gun.  Set it around 350celsius for removing the old caps.  Seemed to work real well, got all the caps of relatively quickly compared to other methods.  Got it recapped, and its working great.  I am going to do my CC board next and then a Turbo Express!   :D fun funnn

3. For sure, I have been watching the board closely while doing this, first things that get damaged are plastic areas.

having fun so far!

You know, I used to resurrect HP, Apple and Dell laptops using a heat gun. What I always did was make a tin foil shield with a hole cut for my target...

yeah, reflowing graphics chips is temporary, in my opinion.  The chip should be replaced completely for a longer fix.  I used that same method for video game consoles and laptops as well.  LOL I would never on a customers device though, doubt you would either.

The thing rocks..... I uncapped an se/30 motherboard in 2 minutes haha. Maybe it was a bit longer, but it beat the heck outta using the iron.

BEST thing so far, is I recapped my turbo express and now she works well!! Got to play a ton of games on it for a bit.  AND it was fun (using the reflow station)... only thing is I really need to get something for my health.  What do I need to get for fumes etc.?  I dont need something massive but I just don't know my options... suggest anything?
