Finally got A/UX installed and running on my Quadra 950. There was considerable trouble with CD/ROMs and most of the listed ones would not work for me, I had to modify the case and install a CD300i. Networking was also an issue, but with the postings available here and with Penelope thats working, even if I'm not sure why or how. Telnet works fine to interact with the Unix side, but want to access the MacOS via gui remotely. Installed Timbuktu 5.0.1 which enables me to control the screen remotely, but only from another machine running the same. The Timbuktu Pro versions running on other machines will not control the 5.0.1. What I'd like to be able to do is control the Quadra from BasiliskII running on my main machine. It uses Timbuktu Pro 4.0.6 while running system 8.1. From what I've been able to figure out Timbuktu Pro v3 should run on the Quadra and be accessible from BasiliskII but I can't run down a copy or find any other info. Any help would be appreciated.

If you find a solution, I'll get it added to the FAQ. This would be a very useful thing to have, these days.

No idea if it'll actually work on A/UX's System 7.0, but you could try ChromiVNC, I suppose.

http://main.system7today.com/software/vnc/vnc.html

(Ignore the bit about minimum requirements being 7.6.1. It seems to run fine on at least 7.5 according to a two minute Basilisk test. Setting up a 7.0 emulator image just to test it isn't on my priority list right now.) I found a source for the not-included OS patches for 68k to speed it up:

http://amcg.ese.ic.ac.uk/~adrian/vnc/

And again, no idea if those extensions would work properly on A/UX. (The server program should work without them.)

Experimented with ChromiVNC, appears it requires Open Transport for networking along with the Thread Manager. Took a chance and installed the Thread Manager, nothing bad seemed to happen. I don't think installing Open Transport will work, and would likely hose the system. Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Unless someone more knowledgeable of A/UX knows otherwise I'm pretty sure the Open Transport requirement sticks a pin in the VNC idea. Sorry for suggesting a dead end.
