"Spectre" game networking??

Anyone remember the game "Spectre"? The tank game that was a hit in the Mac world in the early 90's? (Possibly late 80's?) It has options for networking. Any idea what it would take to get that going? And is that just a local network, or would a remote network be possible?

I loved that game. I wish someone would port it to OS X. I've looked for tank games that have the same appealing simplicity, but no luck so far.

Spectre, Marathon, and SimCity 2000...my unholy triumvirate of college timewasters. (Well, there was Warlords too, but then I couldn't use a cool word like "triumvirate".)

Actually, they -all- had networking, apart from Spectre Challenger, which was the stripped down version included with LCs and Performas.

Anyway, so long as you have two or more Macs with AppleTalk enabled, you should be good to go. LocalTalk is definate, although I can't see why it wouldn't work over ethernet. As for remote networking...it *might* be able to work over Apple Remote Access or whatever, but i'm not really sure.

AppleTalk is medium agnostic. If you can pass AppleTalk packets, it doesn't matter whether it is Ethernet, LocalTalk, ARA, or IRTalk. So long-distance network play via Apple Remote Access should work fine. On the other hand, you're not likely to find anyone interested in making a long distance call to play a little Spectre...

The only luck I had was with Serial :-/

It seemed to only want to work with Local-Talk

I doubt the game requires LocalTalk specifically. Just set up your Mac to route AppleTalk over the ethernet port. That should work fine.
