Quadra 950 floppy drive anomaly

Take the top of the drive shelf out of a Q950 for any reason, then try to put it back, and the floppy will not line up with the slot on the floppy bezel. Much fiddling and the occasional sacrifice of a cut finger to the computer gods are required to get in back in right. (The easiest way, I find, is to take the whole 20" or so long shelf out and the reassemble de capo).

Can somebody explain why, oh why, the Q950 exhibits this peculiarity? I can't comprehend it. As far as I can see, every one of those little metal tabs is put back in the right position, and yet....

I had this happen as well. It's a total mystery.

I however fixed it by removing the drive, unlatching and taking the bezel out a bit and then putting the drive back in and then snapping the bezel back in place.

Drive Shelf

....

4 Slide the drive shelf toward the rear of the computer.

5 Grasp the cable tie and the metal tab and lift the drive shelf out of the computer,

being careful that none of the cables catch on the case.

it's the recommended procedure in the service source
