Powerbook 180 ac adapter

Hi guys,

I just bought a powerbook 180 but it came without a charger. Since an original is either super expensive or expensive to ship where I live, and a Sony Psone brick which has the right specs(7,5 Volts, 2 amps, right polarity) isn't, I was wondering if anyone has any experience using it. The only thing I couldn't figure out is if the barrel size is the same.

I personally think it should be fine, but yes the barrel ID on the PS1 adapter is 1.7mm, but the PB is 2.1mm. You should be able to find a converter (or solder on a 2.1)

Thanks! What about the outer diameter though, is that the same on both jacks? 5.5mm?

If the barrel size of your Sony is the same, it should work.
If it helps, I grabbed compatible ones on Amazon from a decent price.

PB jack OD is 5.6mm afaik, and from the look of it the PS1 jack OD is slightly smaller. I have one here to compare, but my micrometer is not handy.

I had a post about this I thought, but looks like it was lost in the purge 🤷‍♂️ Any of the cheaply available 5.5mm x 2.1mm solder-on connectors (or an adapter if you prefer) should serve nicely.
