Powerbook 1400 is Awesome

This is basically just a testimonial how great the pb1400 is :p

I got mine two years ago from a friend who (finally) found it too old. I fell in love with it, especially the keyboard and its compact size. I've been using it as my main work computer (for math grad school) continuously since then. First I used it under Debian linux but then when I got tired of it being stuck at kernel 2.4 (2.6 is really hard for nubus as far as I can tell) I installed OS 9. Thanks to Classilla and MacSSH this computer is totally capable of doing everything I need and has already outlasted some of my friends' PC laptops :) This computer is awesome!

Anybody got any tips for modernizing this machine? It has the nupowr 216 MHz G3, and I can't get the cache working no matter what I try. Any ideas?

The 1400 is indeed an amazingly useful little laptop. And tough, too (and a great keyboard).

You're lucky to find a G3 card at all. They are rare on the ground and command high prices. I bought the last of the G3/466s from Sonnet and even that was not cheap ($300!).

Actually I sort of thought nupowr cache was for the 183 MHz 603, but I'm definitely not sure because the whole thing is sort of confusing, which software to use. It's silly because a cacheless 216 MHZ G3 is nearly the same speed as a cached 166 MHz 603 :( . Do you know for sure if the nupowr cache control panel is right? It would be awesome to make the cache work.

To be honest, I don't know which driver you will need for your card. I merely suggested that one because of the name.
