Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible

I've been after one of these or a 630 DOS Compatible for a while, took a punt on one earlier this week and was pipped at the post on eBay. However, another came up this week so I took a gamble. Hopefully it isn't battery bombed, and my German is good enough to get it packed well... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314364205097

Better eyesight than me. I can't tell if that is a video card or DOS card.

If it the PC doesn't boot, extract and reseat the 486 - for some reason the sometimes need it.

I was following a 6100 with DOS card that was selling in the UK a few days ago, but ultimately decided not to bid - got too much on my plate already with my troublesome SE/30 reloaded builds.

I wasn't 100% sure either, but theres a picture of the included cable in the ebay pictures, but not on the listing. The keyboard is decent too, if the description is correct - and I can hopefully swap on a UK keycap set.

It’s a DOS card, too many pins for a video card! Hope you enjoy it! I have a Performa 630 DOS that I’ve transplanted into a black PowerMac 5500 and works beautifully!

Did you move the entire 630 logic board into it?!

Was just going to ask the same - is that the smashed one in your post history (had a quick look)?
Yes and yes! The 5500 was badly smashed but I was able to cannibalise it with another faulty 5x00 to make one fully working machine, with the 630 DOS board, and it works well! The only thing that’s obviously broken about it is the speaker grills that were absolutely shattered, and I don’t have a black keyboard and mouse for it (if anyone has any black speaker covers or accessories they want to sell at a reasonable price please let me know!)

Well, this just arrived and either my German was OK or the seller knew what they were doing as it was excellently packed. System is in great condition and a special bonus I could open it up without snapping anything off. It looks fully populated and nice and clean inside, will apply power later on!

Well, it powers, but the disk is blank and/or dead. Seems it has a 486 card as expected, a 1 GB Quantum Empire 1080S, 16 MB RAM and cache fitted.

Hah! Some muppet had disconnected the SCSI connectors when they were checking the board out (me!). System has booted up into D-7.6.1

Congratulations! A 6100 DOS was my first computer when I was a kid, and I stupidly got rid of it in college. I recently made it my mission to get and restore one to just like the one I used to have:

Yeah, really pleased with this one. I had a Performa 450 (surprise!) back in the day, and used to really want the 6100/60 they had at school (which we were allowed to play on at lunch). It didn't have a DOS card, but we ended up getting a 486 after the Performa, so this should cover off all my retro-DOS needs in one go too! (Still have a P3 500 w/ Voodoo, but thats newer games only).

This 6100/66 has 7.6.1 and DOS partitions for Windows 95 and 3.1/6.22. There's a fair few apps, alles auf Deutsch.

The Mac appears to have been used in a printshop until 1998 and then shelved after an easy life. The battery bomb hadn't gone off (Sonnenschein, dated 04/97 and defused, MeowToasts now all in use). The MK-105X also seems a nice keyboard; and also came with a Leitz dustcover.

Have you tried the Voodo in a PCI Mac? I've never got my hands on one sadly. They do fancy graphics in F/A-18 Hornet Korea :)
I haven’t actually - never played that one. I went to PC gaming for a long time after getting the 486 (stuck with Mac for creative things though). I’d actually had the voodoos stored at my mums until very recently - I have a voodoo 3 and a (bit of a sin!) voodoomac 5 5500 flashed to PC - would they be too new?

On the 5500, I was one of the first if not the first to do that a long time ago - usenet posts are still out there :) . I was wondering about trying to flash the 5500 back, but remember the flash tool would only dump but not reflash the Mac ROM at the time.
