Plus bundled floppies?

Hi all,

I'm following an auction on a swiss eBay-like, from a guy selling an "original Macintosh Plus floppy". The auction can be seen here. Actually, it debuted weeks ago with a starting price of about $50. And the guy keeps reposting it, with nobody ever bidding. Now the start price is about $20, and I'd eventually be interested.

So, my question is, does anybody know how many floppies were originally bundled with the Plus, and what were their names? The copyright on the guy's picture says 1985, so one can imagine it's an original System 3.0/Finder 5.1 that came with an early Plus. Who knows what does the floppy contained? Only a System, or some king of an installer? Was there any other floppy with extra software, or was it the only one?

I'm asking just to know if that's a valuable collectible to go with my Plus, or just another useless auction…

Thanks in advance!

Macintosh Plus and 512Ke software bundles
Before April 1988, all Macintosh Plus and 512Ke software bundles included a demo disk for MacDraw, MacWrite, MacProject, MacPaint.

Macintosh Plus

In January 1986, the Macintosh Plus software bundle featured System 3.0 Finder 5.1:

* 690-5064-A "Macintosh Plus: System Tools" disk (v1.0) [2]

* 690-5065-A "Macintosh Plus: A Guided Tour" training disk

o [Macintosh Plus: A Guided Tour] audio tape

In June 1986, the System Tools disk was updated for System 3.2 Finder 5.3:

* 690-5064-B "Macintosh Plus: System Tools" disk (v1.1) [2] [disk image]

In January 1987, the software bundle was updated for System 4.0 Finder 5.4:

* "Macintosh: System Tools" disk (v1.0)

* "Macintosh: Utilities" disk (v1.0)

* "Your Apple Tour of the Macintosh Plus" training disk

In April 1987, the software bundle was updated for System 4.1 Finder 5.5:

* "Macintosh: System Tools" disk (v2.0)

* "Macintosh: Utilities" disk (v2.0)

* "Your Apple Tour of the Macintosh Plus" training disk

In June 1987, the System Tools and Utilities disks were revised:

* 690-6023-B "Macintosh: System Tools" disk (v2.0.1) [disk image]

* 690-6024-B "Macintosh: Utilities" disk (v2.0.1)

* 690-5157-B "Your Apple Tour of the Macintosh Plus" training disk

In August 1987, the Utilities disk was revised a second time, on two disks:

* "Macintosh: Utilities 1" disk (v2.1) [disk image]

* "Macintosh: Utilities 2" disk (v2.1) [disk image]

In October 1987, the software bundle was updated for Macintosh System Software 5.0, on four disks: System Tools 1, System Tools 2 (Printers), Utilities 1, Utilities 2.

In April 1988, the software bundle was updated for Macintosh System Software 6.0, on four disks: System Tools, Printing Tools, Utilities 1, Utilities 2. The training disk was updated and HyperCard was added to the box:

* 690-5209-A "Your Apple Tour of the Macintosh Plus" training disk (v2.0)

* "HyperCard and Stacks"

* "HyperCard Help"

* "HyperCard Ideas"

Now, that's an answer! :) Thank you very much!

Actually, I had Eric Rasmussen's site in my bookmarks for a long time. I just didn't know it had all those detailed information. So, according to the part number (690-5064A), it's the original System 3.0/Finder 5.1 that shipped with early Pluses. It seems to be labeled "Macintosh Plus: System Disk" instead of "macintosh Plus: System Tools", though.

I guess I'll ask the seller if he ever tested the floppy and knows he's selling an incomplete bundle… :cool:

Thanks again, slomacuser!

I've got one of those. It's an 800k disk, so there was room for more than just a System foler.

I'm asking just to know if that's a valuable collectible to go with my Plus, or just another useless auction…

Thanks in advance!
It's valuable if the contents are still OK. Otherwise, you end up paying a whole lot of money for what amounts to a plastic disk with a sticker.

My advice: don't pay too much if you are not sure that the disk contents are OK.

Sure! I asked the guy about it, making clear that his floppy was only half of the original bundle. He clearly states in the auction that he had sold his Plus years ago, so my bet is he has no way of testing the floppy. I asked about the buyer's options in case the floppy can't be read. Wainting for an answer!
