Here is the error my SD card had when I was using a premade image, as you can see it was only complaining about SCSI ID # 5:

Hence why I am asking him to try a fresh installation. The file you provided might have been good when you created it but you yourself know that once it left your hands, any number of things could have damaged the image.

His error is also specifically complaining about that one image. Its in the log.txt file he sent.
But fragmentation in this context is about the files as they are on the SD card, not the files inside the image. To the SD card, the image is just one file.

This has nothing to do with the image file itself, just how it has been written to the card! Or a bug or whatever.

Please believe me, everyone keeps arguing with me about stuff and I'm been ground down.

So do you care to offer a solution for the OP to try?

I'm trying to give them options that worked for me. I didn't reformat the SD card, just simply made a new blank image and reinstalled the OS. That worked for me and I want to see if it works for him. No harm in that, no?

I think you are taking this a bit too personal Phipli, I'm just trying to help with my personal experience. If my experience was a fluke then the OP can confirm or deny that. Just takes a bit of time out of their day.

Sorry you are being ground down. When I get overwhelmed I step away from what overwhelmed me until I feel better.

Copy a second copy onto the SD card and then delete the original afterwards, then rename the copy to the original name. This results in the file being moved further out into the card, hopefully away from the issue.

I've tried to explain that fragmentation is a consequence of the file system on the SD Card and not a property of the image file. They don't need to create a new image from scratch.

So it seems. I often do.

I have nothing else to do.

I’ve had success using a defragmentation tool (ultradefrag). Might not be workable in all cases of course. Much simpler to just copy the images off, format properly, and copy back.

@Phipli your endless patience is much appreciated ;)

IMHO I seem to detect from diverse directions some form of subtle bias towards Phipli which in my limited experience on this forum is misplaced. I consider him a valuable asset to the forum, a knowledgeable, helpful and extremely patient guy. My impression and not to criticize anyone as I want to think it is in good faith.
