OS X El Capitain and USB Floppy Drive

Does anyone know the floppy support in El Capitiain?

It sees my 1.4 HFS floppy as read only. Yes the write protect is off. It will not let me write to the floppy.

Any way to get it to write?

Thanks

All HFS volumes are read-only past a certain system....I forget the cutoff point.
Plain HFS (Mac OS Standard) is treated as read-only since Snow Leopard, thus making Leopard (10.5) the last Mac OS X to have full read/write support.

Thanks C, I will have to go back to Leopard
Of course!

I remember it being a relatively big deal back when Snow Leopard was released, particularly in the emulation community.

There have been projects over the years since that tried to re enable full read/write for HFS on later versions of Mac OS X, including Snow Leopard, but none of them were particularly reliable as I recall, and the world moved on and found other ways to adapt (probably the easiest was to do as you're planning to do and keep an install of Leopard around to use when HFS R/W support is needed).

Yea, plus I will be able to network my G5 Mac running leopard with my IIfx and I will be able to share my Laserwriter IIG

I do wish that there was still HFS support, but it also is no use for 800k disks (no USB drive around that can read those).

powered up my Power Mac G5, it has 10.5.8 on it. Connected my USB floppy and I was able to copy files to my floppy. I was also able to connect to my IIfx using AFP
