Orinoco Wireless Card Problem

I use an Orinoco Gold Wireless card with my Wallstreet G3. It was working fine but recently it can't find my wireless signal. When I open up the TCP/IP control panel the numbers for the IP address, router, etc. are all wrong. I tried to enter them manually and I still get the same result. The Orinoco control panel shows the card is not able to pick up a signal. I'm using OS 9.2.2. Anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks.

Are you using encryption? And if so, what encryption standard are you using? Because OS 9.2.2 does not support WPA. only unencrypted and WEP are supported.

The base station is set to unencrypted. I tried the card in my 1400 also. It used to work in it and no longer does. Either my base station is no longer produces a wireless signal or the card is not working.

Try resetting your AP. Can you test its signal with a different WiFi machine?

LCGuy: Does the ORiNOCO Gold card support WPA? I thought it could only do 128-bit WEP?

Your card is dead. I've got one like this. The LEDs on the card light up, and the software thinks it is working, but it never finds any wiresless networks.

For the cost of the card, I'd just put a nail in it and buy another. It's probably not worth trying to fix it. And besides, the problem could be anwhere from the antenna to the radio.

Peace,

Drew

I'm fairly sure it can do WPA if the OS supports it, like if you're using OS X 10.3 or 10.4, XP SP2 or Vista, or a compatible Linux version, but OS 9 has absolutely no WPA support whatsoever. Only WEP.

I took it to the local library which has wifi access. The control panel showed that a signal was being picked up. I opened up Netscape and the libraru home page came up. I had some problems logging on to the website so I rebooted the computer. The control panel showed a signal was still bring picked up but when I opened up Netscape the homepage did not come up. Maybe the card works intermittently. I think I'll just pick up another card.
