Odd crud in the System Folder

Maybe your hard drive is corrupted. It could also be files named in another language that your system doesn't have the font to handle.

Have you got any foreign software installed? Text in foreign characters comes up like that when the system can't display it properly (for example, Kanji characters)

Nope, can't think of any foreign software that I would have installed on this bugger. I'll have to give my 6500 the once-over to see if something like that is on it too, since some of the software on the G4 came from the 6500... Thanks for the tips though :)

I can't think of any viruses that would cause that off the top of my head. I know Seven Dust puts files in the system folder but they'd be extensions called 666.

One tip--check the creation dates on those files. Let us know what they are, especially relative to the system version you're using.

The icon for Hanja.Dic may be indicative. Hanja is the Korean name for Korean characters based on Chinese characters.

If you look closely at the centre of the folder at the top left of the window on the desktop you will also see the Korean symbol from the centre of their flag.

I shall leave you to work out how the software arrived on your disk.
