I'm baffled why it has the onboard speaker instead of popping it through the internal audio like Apple's pwn A/V cards.

Probably that card was totally independent of motherboard and processor. That way it wasn't limited like the Mac tv.

They exist, I have one somewhere. With the death of Analog TV they are kind of useless. Sure you can use a converter box to feed it a signal but anything with A/V input can do that as well since all converter boxed have RCA out at least.

What kind of useless?

Go get some old B movies and a VCR at goodwill and play them on a Mac just for kicks!

Heck, blockbusters on VHS are on sale for a dollar or less a lot of places.

I saw that one and almost listed it here, but didn't have the time.

There's a NuBus Adapter for a Quadra 610 available for a bit yet over on eBay right now.

I may be misremembering some of this, but I believe Aaps was founded by Nolan Bushnell.

As for the hardware, there were both B&W and color cards. The B&W card, at least, would only work in 24-bit mode with an DA interface. ISTR there also being an SDK for the cards, including HyperCard support.
