Yesterday I went to a beautiful horse farm in Massachusetts and picked up a dead Color Classic in 9/10 cosmetic condition (more on that in the Compact Macs form). It also came with a ZOOM V.32bis modem (2 phone jacks and a parallel looking jack that has a cable that ends in Appletalk) and Color StyleWriter 1500 printer and software boxes/manuals/disks including Oregon Trail 1.1, ClarisWorks, Quicken, Mactools, Wordperfect and a third-party guide to system 7.1. All versions are the early system 7 era, but meant for color.

I'm wondering if I should just throw out this stuff, especially the bulky manuals. The printer is quite yellowed on one side, but I'm wondering if I'd regret throwing it out down the road. Does anyone know if the modem can help me connect to internet from any of my 68k compact macs? I have an ethernet connection (via cable) at home, and I'm not interested in buying dial-up service, and I don't have the drivers.

Let me know if you think I should hold on to this stuff, or if anyone wants anything. Thank you.

Boxed software such as ClarisWorks and WordPerfect are hard to find. You should keep them or send them to me immediately.

When you say "throw out this stuff," surely you aren't referring the the Color Classic?

Do not throw out manuals or anything in an original box. These are often thrown out and therefore rarer than the actual items.

I had at least 10 CSW 1500s (before a sale) and only one box.

Of course I would not throw out the Color Classic! Its the compact i've been dreaming of for months! If i can get it working, Mike Richardson, I'd very much like to buy the PDS ethernet card on your website. Very cool website.

The Stylewriter has the box, power supply and attachment cable. If anyone wants anything, I live in MA and make me an offer! Though I'm keeping the Oregon trail because I'm generation Y (born august 1989 - same as my SE/30!) and that game has a lot of sentimental connection for my age group.

If you're willing to ship, I'd be interested in the StyleWriter (w/ the box and all that) as well as the ClarisWorks.

Yes, in accordance to what some others have said, DO NOT throw out manuals! They are an invaluable source of knowledge! If someone is still using the product which they describe 10 years from now, that someone will certainly appreciate having the manual!

You live in MA, eh? Whereabouts? I grew up on the North Shore. I love getting back there when I can.

Peace,

I live in Lexington. I won't say where, but there is a woman in a nearby town who has an entire basement full of all old macs, peripherals and software you guys would drool over. She wouldn't sell me her SE with Asante Ethernet or her complete Macintosh 128k with box and everything!

Does anyone know how I may expect to use that modem? I'd hunt around the internet for drivers, but would I have to dial to a ISP number? I'm wondering if any modern ISPs are even compatible.

Yes, that's the only way to use that modem to get on the net. You're far better off swapping or selling your excess items here or elsewhere to get yourself some ethernet cards for your older Macs. Then they can use your existing connection.
