So i finally got a fresh copy of 8.6 installed in my beautiful power mac 6400

Performa_6400.jpg.04226a030d1e89bbf152bd36ff0c3ebd.jpg

cd rom was screwed up so it took some patience.

anyways finally got the driver for my 300mhz sonnet installed… in order to do that i had to install USB card support first…

then stuffit.

Was running pretty smooth at this point.

So i thought OK , lets try out this sub woofer in this thing.

threw a master p track on the thumb drive, installed SoundApp PPC.

it was going… turned up the volume. bumpin, then the whole computer froze. hit the power button, fired back up

Sit's there Disk question mark, and I can hear the HD start up and shut down, retrying :)

I mean its ok… i have a stack of 6/10/20/40 gb IDE HD's in a box some where…

its just funny that the Sub in this thing, did the hd in…

Let's see... big magnet, strong waves, nearby magnetic media... I'm surprised it doesn't happen, actually.

The magnet in the sub is not at fault.

There are two possible reasons why your HDD died:

1. AGE.

2. Vibration.

A drive can die at any time, and they like to pick the worst times. Did I ever mention the time about six or seven years ago IIRC when I had a (purchased new)120GB Samsung HDD in my primary desktop fail mere hours before a scheduled replacement? (250GB Barracuda 7200.something, also new, still works today.)

Or the time a spankin new 1.5TB Cuba LP died juuust after a long format? Just at the point where it is like "ok, it seems to work lets load some data on this thing"

Better put new caps on that HDD.

I've been wondering about that part of the . . . erm . . . . . . ummm . . .

< painful level of self restraint mode. :p >

. . . InstaTower design myself.

It seems incredible to me that they didn't choose to mount the HDD in the cubic behind the Zip Drive in the lid, but I guess the tuner box would have been more affected than the HDD. Still, they could have moved the drives up a bit and mounted the IR sensor/jack/buttons box horizontally to fit the HDD underneath it. That high forehead look is unsightl . . . very pronounced.

It's not like the symmetry helped its horrib . . . looks very much.

< /self restraint mode ::) >

The 6400's innards are a beauty to behold. I love em' but it proves what they say: ugly, like beauty, is only skin deep. [;)] ]'>

The P6360 is the bees knees. Same guts, if a Slot & a Sub short, but it's Sub is about 5x the cubic and diameter!

-- because trash80 thinks they are ugly :)

I think if trash turned out the lights he would enjoy using his 6400 more.

Or you could always throw a brown bag over it :)

I'd think understatement should be the other way around . . . ugly? Not a word I'd have chosen. }:)

Yet another reason for that poor, abused HDD to die, embarrassment . . . on top of that musical selection.

Base line classics:

BTO - Takin' Care of Business

DP - Smoke on the Water

. . . and a noob fave . . .

Stones - Doom & Gloom

. . . indie fave . . .

Transit Vocal Band (local acapella group) - Supermassive Black Hole - crank the rhythm section's bass

We know about your taste in two things now, how about the classic babes-n-cars combo?

On second thought, better stick to just your taste in cars, family friendliness and all . . . :-/

When I put a subwoofer in my car last year I did the initial test and adjusted the levels using some of Moog's songs. Also makes for good driving music too. :) (not too much of a surprise, given that he does a car show on YouTube - Mighty Car Mods)

Nice pic, brings to mind of a couple of baseline classics form Jethro Tull:

Locomotive Breath: obvious that

Aqualung: seconhand smoke

@ finkmacunix: good point about that commodores tune.

uni, maybe there's hope for your tastes in music after all, I think we can dispense with the vehicular tangent now. ::)
