Hi *nix users and mac addicts,

I learned that OpenSolaris 2008.05 released yesterday and it includes Sun licensed QuickTransit which translates Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86 just like Rosetta (Mac OS/PPC-to-Mac OS X86). In fact both products developed by the very same company Transitive. Recently I was trying to install A/UX 3 to my Q650 and chasing A/UX pages over the net.

I saw this page it's about Macintosh Application Environment that runs under HP-UX and Solaris. I want to give MAE a try under OpenSolaris+QuickTransit. However I don't have MAE. Has anybody in here have this MAE 3.0 Free Demo Software CD in handy?

Why not run it under Basilisk? I know it's available for GNU/Linux but not sure about OpenSolaris.

Basilisk is 3rd party solution. MAE is genuine Apple and more complete (I guess).

Well, Basilisk emulates the whole system. It'll run anything you throw at it...

MAE looks very interesting though. I wonder how exactly it works?

Was this ever released commercially or did it never get past the demo stage?
It was released commercially and reached version 3.

I remember people in CS department using it when I was in University of Washington in Seattle.

Any idea if this QuickTransit feature would allow OpenStep for Solaris to run on OpenSolaris 10? It was SPARC-only afaik.
