Macintosh Plus 4MB - Installing DaynaPORT Drivers under System 7.5.5

Hi all,

I'm trying to get a Macintosh Plus with 4MB of RAM online using a PiSCSI, but having some issues installing the DaynaPORT driver.

The v7.5.3 installer recommended in the documentation doesn't seem to recognize the virtual DaynaPORT adapter I have attached on the PiSCSI (first image), but the v7.7.2 installer I found here (https://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/network.shtml) does recognize the adapter, but never completes the installation. It hangs indefinitely at "Preparing to install" (second image). I'm currently running system 7.5.5 (sourced a minimal image from here: https://www.savagetaylor.com/downloads/downloads-macintosh/).

Any ideas?

This is Steve from SavageTaylor.com Did you update my image to the full version of 7.5.5? I have an actual Asanté device that I use and it needed the full version of the system installed to work properly. I have a guide for the Plus and 6.0.8 on my site. I hope to experiment with the piSCSI in the future, mainly for it's powerview emulation

Hi there Steve, thanks so much for your reply.
No, I haven't updated your image to the full version of 7.5.5 - how might I go about doing this?
I sought out your minimal installation since the System 7 images supplied with the PiSCSI seemed to be a bit unstable on my Plus.

I have guides on my site on how to update to the full version, typically I use Basilisk II to do the update using Apple’s Legacy Software Recovery CD from the Internet Archive as the source of the update files. Because you have the PiSCSI, you may be able to put the Legacy CD image directly on you PiSCSI and load the image on your Plus and directly install on your plus without using Basilisk II. You might have to add the CD-ROM enabler found on my image to your extensions folder. They are found in the Drivers (non-network) folder on my image.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Steve.
I followed your guides to create a few boot images, but still had some instability issues.
After talking with RADmark on the Open Retro SCSI Discord, I learned that there are long-standing compatibility issues with PiSCSI and the Macintosh Plus.
The solution turned out to be tracking down a disk image formatted with Silverlining 5.3.1, known to be compatible with PiSCSI/Plus (I used "MacPack_Silverlining.zip").

Now the real fun begins! I owned a Macintosh SE as a kid, but haven't touched a compact Mac since then. It's been fun revisiting all the old games and programs from my childhood :)
