Macintosh Classic Color

We are our own little company called 24PinTech at a school and our boss/teacher has challenged me to get our Macintosh Color Classic to work. We have an SCSI2SD 5.2 already. I have tried a few different methods to get this to work, but they all have failed, Last year students were last trying to get Basilisk to run through an SD card to run it on the SCSI2SD, would anybody know what I can do to even get our Macintosh color classic running an Operating System?

You’re going to need to replace all the electrolytic capacitors on the logic board of the computer, and likely also the power supply and analog control boards. They always fail and begin to leak corrosive electrolyte fluid. There is also a battery on the logic board that can leak, so if it hasn’t, you’ll need to remove it. It will also only power on with the power key on the keyboard.

Why is it not working? What are the symptoms?
Well when i turn it on it shows that I don't habe any mountable on my computer hints which is why I'm using the SCSI2SD. I have updated the firmware on the SCIS2SD to the latest 5.2 from https://www.scsi2sd.com/v5/releases/ I am still having a little trouble finding a proper install media of MAC 7.5.5 or of 7.6 (I'm using Repository Macintosh for OS finding) I also haven't found anything on trying to get Basilisk to run on the SD card on the SCSI2SD.
I hope this helps!

Can you boot from a floppy?
If you can make the system setup floppies you could at least format the SCSI2SD and install like if it was a regular disk

FYI, there are disk emulators such as BlueSCSI, RASCSI or ZuluSCSI that are far more friendly to use than the SCSI2SD. If you could get one of these connected externally you could easily transfer the system and software to the SCSI2SD.

We are not able to use floppy, It doesn't work on our Color Classic, we are starting to look for one online we can buy since we have the floppy with the os it's just the Floppy doesn't work on the Color Classic.

can you please expand the "trying to get Basilisk to run through an SD card to run it on the SCSI2SD"?

"not able to use floppy", "Floppy doesn't work", ok but what prevent you access the floppy disk? what are the symptoms? It's a mechanical issue? Does the floppy get in? is it ejected? Any noise? Does the head move? Does it ask to initialise every floppy? Usually it's enough to do a cleaning, of course there are catches, you need to look for video and instructions, it's a delicate procedure but doable, be kind with the heads and do not remove the track-0 sensor. There could problem with the SWIM chip, but at lease we know that the floppy drive is ok. We need symptoms descriptions.

My teacher and former students/employees were trying to run basilisk through an sd card through the SCSI2SD, I was just seeing if anyone has done it before or knows how to do it. I've spent some of last year and this year researching with no luck.

So, Basilisk is a Mac emulator. It doesn't run on an SD card and it can't run on your SCSI2SD.

I think what you mean is, you want to see if you can get the SD card in the SCSI2SD mounted as a volume in Basilisk II to help you set it up?

If so, yes, that is a thing, but it does require following certain steps but it doesn't guarantee it will get your Colour Classic booting from the SCSI2SD - other steps have to happen.

It would be useful to know exactly which steps you are stuck on and what you have tried. You said you tried to follow several guides but I am not sure what hasn't worked for you?

What host machine are you using to set up the SCSI2SD and what have you tried so far to get the SD card set up?

It's difficult to start suggesting things until we know more about what isn't working for you.

I'm a bit lost here, it should not be so complex: there are pre-defined images that you can use even without using BasiliskII (that's something you can try later), @joshc provides you a link to DAVID AND STEVE'S BLOG where they tell how to transfer their images to an SD for SCSI2SD.
It could be daunting at first but with some basic IT skill it should be done in couple of hours or so.
Of course assuming it's all fine on the Mac side, but still we don't know that's happening to you guys...

Okay thank you for the information. I will link what websites I have used and what I am having trouble with. I followed the Dave and Steve's Blog http://www.savagetaylor.com/2018/01...lassic-68k-macintosh-using-a-scsi2sd-adapter/ The firmware step was confusing for me. Along with finding an OS i can use and find (I used Macintosh Repository) I got stuck on coping the files using BalenaEtcher as well. I think my only reason for getting stuck is not being able to find the correct OS file or an OS file that will work for me.

you can skip the SCSI2SD firmware update, it's not mandatory, it can work even if it has not the latest version
1 download the OS 7.5.5 from here https://www.savagetaylor.com/wp-content/uploads/68k_Macintosh/Bootdisks/755_2GB_volume.zip
2 unzip the archive
3 use balenaetcher to transfer the image file to the SD, it must be > 2GB
4 insert the SD in the SCSI2SD
5 connect the SCSI2SD to your modern host PC/Mac.
6 Configure SCSI2SD using the tool here http://www.codesrc.com/files/scsi2sd/, chose the right card you own. Take care of configuring the right SCSI ID, usually 0 if the HD is not connected or not present, ID 1 works fine as well (you can do this just once if you do not need to change the ID). You can skip this step if it troubles you, but please disconnect the HD from the Color Classic Mac to avoid conflicts with the ID
7 connect the SCSI2SD card to your not powered-on Mac either internally or extenally
8 turn it on

other variables can impede the successful boot, but in case you must be vey specific and detailed in describing where it failed and what are the symptoms, "having troubles with" or "I got stuck" does not allow us to help you further, in case you can send a video or pictures

all the best

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately it didn't work but I think I know the problem. But I have a question about it first off. Is it necessary to have the Molex to 4 pin connector to get the SCSI2SD to use the SCSI2SD to get the SD card to be read.

This is Steve from the blog. You need to write (balenaEtcher) one of my drive images to the SD card, not a volume image. That "image" has everything you need to boot. If your CC isn't working with the SCSI2SD there is likely something else wrong. E.g. a capacitor issue

Thank you. I will try this once I figure out if the Listing above works or not. Thank you for the blog as well, It has helped a lot.

Not for the color classic
