Hi all - appreciate any help or information you may have - I'm looking to get my 4MB Mac Plus speaking TCP/IP. I want to use it as a terminal to telnet to other hosts on an IP / Ethernet network. I have system 6.0.8, and an Asante EN/SC SCSI ethernet adapter.
I am a networking guy, so once I get IP, I can figure it out from there, but I'm not that far yet - and, I'm not sure if what I have is a hardware/cabling problem, or a software problem (or both).
I've got the following files in my System Folder (I was not a heavy Macintosh user pre-OSX, so I don't really know how these files work):
-Asante En/SC
-AppleShare
-AppleTalk
-EtherTalk Phase 1
-EtherTalk Phase 2
-Finder
-General
-MacTCP
-MacTCP DNR
-Network
-Responder
-System
I get an EN/SC icon and a Responder icon on the bottom on boot (extensions) and neither has an X through it. Those are the only two extensions that seem to load. When I click on 'Network' in the control panel, I get a bomb! 'Sorry a system error occurred. address error' and I have to restart...The network control panel item is 41K, and says version 1.3.3
I suspect some problem with this file, but not sure - I'm using the one that came on the EN/SC install disk.
I've also got a question about the cabling between the EN/SC and my Plus. This is a desktop device with three lights on the front, and an AUI connector on the front - RJ45 and Thinnet on the back, along with two DB25 female SCSI ports. There is also a SCSI ID dial. No power switch on this - just a 12V DC input. I am connecting a DB25 / DB25 Male / Male Zip Drive cable between the EN/SC and a female DB25 port on the back of the Plus - there is an icon that looks like a disk drive above the port. Is this cabling right? I'm not sure that it is....
Any help greatly appreciated - I don't need AppleTalk running between another Mac - just straight IP so I can telnet (and maybe ssh, but I've not looked as far as clients that would run on a Plus) Thanks!
