Mac Plus freezes at "Welcome to Macintosh" weirdness

I have a very weird issue with my MacPlus, it hangs at the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen regardless if I boot off the internal floppy, external floppy or a HD20 drive. I even swapped the logicboard with another MacPlus and it still freezes.

Any ideas?

A few things to try:

1. Are you using the same copy of the system software on all startup devices? There is always a chance you could have a corrupt System file. Try using a different floppy to boot the Plus or attempt to use the disks in question to boot another Mac. Questionable System files are by far the most common cause of this problem, followed by bad disks. Trying them in another Mac will tell you if this is an issue or not. Also, make certain there is a valid Finder file in the System Folder.

2. If you've eliminated the disk and System file as a culprit, look to see if there are any INITs or cdevs installed in the System Folder. A corrupt or incompatible INIT or cdev may cause a freeze.

OK, now the weirdness is weirder. 2x MacPluses,

-Plus No. 1 when you power up trips the earth leakage safety switches in my house after about 30 seconds so I won't power it up.

-Plus No. 2 powers up and continually tries to eject a disk from the internal floppy, it is not the drive as I have tried 3 drives and they all started ejecting at power up. I plug in an external 3.5" drive, it boots and then hangs at "Welcome to Macintosh" regardless of what disk or version of OS I was, 6.03 or 6.08. I plug in the HD20 (don't know what system is on it) but it too hangs at the Welcome to Macintosh" screen.

-I now take the logicboard from Plus No. 1 (the one that trips the safety switches) and put it in Plus No. 2, Plus No. 2 exhibits all the same behaviour as it did with its own logicboard.

I have to conclude that it is something in the analog board or power supply of Plus No. 2 that is causing all the weirdness as it is only part that I have to exchanged because i am not game to use the analog board or power supply of Plus No. 1 as it keeps tripping the safetly switches.

Is it possible that something in the analog board or power supply that is causing the thing to hang?

If the power supply is not putting out the correct voltages, disk drives won't work, and the motherboard will be unreliable. Check the 12V and 5V supplies with a voltmeter. There is an adjustment on the analog board for output voltage which sets the 12V output. If the Mac is upgraded or has accessories plugged in, you may have to set 12V a bit high to bring 5V within range. 5V should read between 4.75 and 5.25 V, and 12V should be between 12 and 13V.

Have you checked that the disks you're using will boot another Mac? A bad disk is still the most likely culprit.
