Mac IIci - Radius Nubus Video Card Help

I’m trying to get a Radius GS/C-MP video card to work in my IIci.

The particulars: Recapped MLB IIci with 32 MB RAM, the card in Slot “D”, a M1297 AppleColor HiRez RGB monitor, SS 7.5.2, RadiusWare versions 2.3.2 or 3.2.5. The RadiusWare installer loads two Control Panels and one Extension. The card is in excellent physical condition - it looks like new.

A Macintosh video card in the slot works just fine. With the Radius card the monitor does nothing - nil, zip, nada - either with or with out the “T” key held down at startup. In fact, with the “T” key held down I sense that the hard drive does not run nearly as long as it should. PRAM Zap makes no difference

I don’t have a manual or user’s guide for the card. There are three jumpers on it that I haven’t touched. Have I missed a step here or what?

Not that I can think of. Radius cards almost always work just fine wih full function without any drivers installed. Everything necessary is in the DeclROM for basic function. AFAIK the RadiusWare "drivers" are only tweaks to allow for more settings/flexibility than the Monitors Control Panel provides along with system hooks allowing different Radius cards to work together as a team. I've got lots of them, but not that one IIRC. I'm pretty much a Radius collector first, the Macs are hosts for my collection when I'm not playing with the 81/110.

Trying it with extensions off, in a different slot and then in another Mac would be my first three moves.

Belay my last in your particular case, but it's good general info/advice.

In your case you need a far more capable display, in real world terms HiRex it ain't, never really was. On the other hand, your card's resolution is fixed at 1152 x 882 at up to 24-bit color! Nice TPD card! Use it with a high end MultiSync LCD with a higher native resolution and you should be good to go.

Not only is this card 1152x882 fixed res, it's also sync in green. I have one myself and while it does work there is a pink fringe on everything and somewhere on the forum is another report of that, something to keep in mind.

De nada! A TPD is a (BIG@$$ Monitor) Two Page Display, that was Radius' third product. First was the FPD (Full Page Display) and second was the Radius Accelerator. Everybody needs to find a nice 21" MultiSync CRT, Two Page Display with front panel A/B switched VGA and 5-BNC connections before they all disappear! With those there aren't any excuses about Sync on green, oddball (traditional Mac) resolutions, non-60Hz refresh rates (same, same) and color calibration issues with these newfangled LCD thingamajiggers. :lol:

Are you using a VGA display? If so what adapter are you using and what are the settings that make it work?

I actually ended up swapping the card out, the pink fringe was related to monitors not supporting 1152x882. The adapter I have is an old Viewsonic one that's just labeled 640x480-1280x1024 or something like that. No switches or anything. A Supermac Spectrum/8 SIII was dirt cheap and easier than the headache of the fixed res Radius.

If you really want to use this card you need to find yourself an old CRT that does sync on green, otherwise it's going to have odd artifacts and fringe. 21" or so range is your best bet for that.

I'm not looking to use the card. I have too much extra stuff for my IIci and I'm fixing to get it to folks who can use it.

Even putting it on the Bay I'd like to know that it isn't defective.
