There was a website that goes through modding the M1296/M1299 12" RGB LC topper to run at 640x480.

Ill be damned if I still have the link.

out of curiosity, does anyone have it bookmarked?

Oh thank you, your a savior!

You get a cookie of the day. lol

Once I get my 12" RGB monitor rebuilt, I am going to do this mod eventually. I have a 12" RGB that came from uniserver that had a vertical issue I did a youtube video on, turns out a cluster of capacitors near the yoke connector, and horizontal drive transistor spilled its guts.

So a recap is in order, plus a flyback changeout. Then were good :)

I'll give you TWO cookies if you can do it all in one sitting AND video tape the whole thing. And then take a shot of moonshine at the very end and slam the empty glass on your bench, shouting HELLL YEAHHHHH

Looks like the hacker above had a second attempt at doing this mod in a slightly different way:
http://mobley.jp/e05mod05.html

As I said before, my VGA adapter was not very strong, and my children broke it by rough treatment. So I decided to modify monitor sense of the original cable connecter itself so that it would be permanently wired for VGA mode.

I have to change the cable out in mine anyway, it has an intermittent color when you twist the wire, so I will fix that then.

Before I can do the hack though, I got to finish refurbing the analog board and getting it going again properly.

Any news on whether or not the IIGS monitor and LC Topper use the same flyback? I did go ahead and buy that flyback on eBay to repair mine.

I do have a IIGS monitor now but don't feel like cracking it open...

The flyback I ordered looks 100% identical to the one in my Mac RGB monitor, But I havent had a chance to swap it out just yet.

OK, a few questions here...

1. Is it possible to swap guts from monitor to monitor without desoldering the flyback?

2. Does this monitor self-discharge when you unplug it?

3. Anyone have a list of caps for these monitors?

1. Yea, but you have to unhook the anode cap from the CRT

2. Yes with time.

3. Working on it, eventually...

OK--I think I'm good on the first two. I'm thinking of doing a quick fix with my LC monitors until the original part can be repaired with both caps and a new flyback.

One has its anode cap removed already, the other hasn't been powered up since 2013 so I think we're extra safe there :)

I just want my LC to run again :) I have an extra LC board and a re-capped power supply that I won't need for a few months that I can use as stopgaps until everything is refurbished.

EDIT: Once I get the board back, do you think maybe 3 days is sufficient to let the monitor discharge? I know I could use the discharge procedure but I trust the monitor discharging itself more than I trust myself doing that. (I honestly never discharge my Classics and SEs and have removed CRTs from them after having powered them down just a few minutes earlier).

OK, I'm doing this tonight if all goes well.....any other things I should be aware of inside these monitors in terms of parts which may snap, etc?
