Looking for classic BBS packages

I guess it must be that time of the year.

Anyway, I'd be really keen to get my hands on the following two early Mac BBS packages to have a play. Both apparently run on a 128k Mac and some googling shows that both seem to have been reasonably well deployed back in the day (based on some old BBS lists), but interestingly, neither appear in the Mac section of the BBS documentary software list.

The first is "BetaBoard" which was written in Microsoft BASIC.

The second is Mouse Exchange BBS (or MEBSS).

If anyone has any information on either of these (or even some war stories if you used to run them), I'd be keen to hear from you.

Cheers,

The only thing I could find was a Usenet article polar to your own -- asking for information about other BBS programs. It's not really useful, but here's a link to it if you're curious: Wanted: Bulletin Board Software & Info.

Wanted: Information on Macintosh Bulletin Board software availability.I have Mouse Exchange, and BetaBoard 2.3 but would like to hear from any

other users who have information on OTHER Mac BBS software.

Yeah, I'd seen that too. I also came across "INFO-MAC Digest, Monday, 23 Jun 1986,Volume 4 : Issue 79 " which breifly describes both BetaBoard and Mouse Exchange BBS. I've also got an old MacWorld that lists BetaBoard as being available from a mail order place (and I'm sure I've seen ad's for Mouse Exchange BBS in old mags).

I also came across a website for an old French Mac magazine (MiCMAC), which lists BetaBoard as being on one of its shareware / PD disks http://www.micmac.com/mm07/mmpd.html. I've emailed the site asking if they still have a copy but I'm not holding my breath.

Good luck! I too have been to that site, and yes, there are some very interesting programs listed on it!
