LCIII+ OS 8.1 Finder Crash when transferring large files

Hey all,
Wondering if this is an issue others have run into in the past.
I have an LCIII that I've recapped, and did an 'overclock' so it identifies as an LCIII+ now.
It has the 68882 FPU installed, 32mb ram (128mb w/ virtual), and vram chip. Tattletech sees everything as it should.
Before the recap, the clock would reset after every reboot even with a fresh battery. This issue has been fixed with the recap. working great for a cpl weeks.
I have installed OS 8.1 on my SCSI2SD w/ 32gb SD Card with a 2gb partition for boot and x2 10gb partitions for files.
Everything loads fine, programs seem to run, I've logged hours into simcity 2000 😬 lol.
I HAVE transferred some large programs to my 10gb partitions without problems;
But now when moving or copying any file larger than about 1mb the finder crashes, i lose all my icons for a moment and it eventually restarts Finder only having transferred a portion of the file.
Seems like an odd intermittent issue, and I haven't figured out how to trigger it or fix it.
Any ideas? Could this be due to capacitors? Is it my partitions or scsi2sd setup?
Thanks for any help
Cheers - Tom

I did those same things but installed 8.1 from scratch using a guide online, maybe you forgot to change something per a guide?

hmm are you using a scsi2sd or something similar? I used a premade image for basilisk II and flashed to sd card, then modified partitions on the LCIII. I followed Gamba's instructions to modify the system file to get it to boot, i also applied the OS8 030 patch via resedit. I modified the finder via resedit too,
ResEdit hack to 8.1 Finder file: (optional)
• 'SIZE' resource 'ID -1', change 'Size' to '1310720'.
not sure if i can copy another system folder or original finder app without it crashing; I did this to my se/30 aswell and it has no problems with the resedit fixes.

yes I am, maybe you forgot a step or mistyped a value in resedit?

I guess I must have made an oversight! I was able to make a zip disk with the SE/30 of 7.5.5 and booted it on the LCIII. Copying files is working fine there, I must have bungled the OS 8 install somehow. If I figure out exactly what went wrong or fix my OS 8.1 install I will post here for future reference

tip if you rename your system folders to say 'System 8.1 Folder' and system 'System 7.5.5 Folder' or any other name you want really, then you can use system picker to select system folder to boot from while keeping them on the same hdd partition.

also try doing a file copy in system 8.1 with extensions disabled to see if the problem persists.
if reinstalling 8.1 doesn't fix the issue possible could be ram. if you have some spare ram try swapping it to see if the problem persists or not

Thank you Chopsticks!! I am even closer, I copied the 7.5.5 system folder over and can boot between the two using system picker. With extensions disabled in OS8.1 i can copy large files no problem! I tried using extensions manager to disable all my extensions / control panels then slowly turn them on until it breaks, however even with all disabled it will not work without booting w/ shift key. Does this boot mode disable more than just extensions?
I am in the process of reinstalling 8.1 regardless!

We had a breaker blow yesterday and my 2010 imac wasn't on the APC.. now it doesn't show any signs of life found out the fuse is blown on psu and there's a short beyond that! I was using the imac to flash fresh installs onto the SD card but i am waiting on a replacement PSU. in the meantime for shits I'm attempting to download 8.1 install CD directly on the LCIII using icab and it's almost finished lol
