LC III Hard Drive

I have a Seagate Hawk 4.3 gb SCSI hard drive that I would like to try to use in my LC III running 7.5.5 I was wondering if there is a way that I can format the hard drive from the LC III to get it to work seeing as I don't have any other SCSI based computers. Right now it won't recognize the drive, probably because there are partitions over 2bg. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I feel like right now it was a dumb idea to get a drive bigger than what is supported and try to partition it without any other computers to do the partitioning... Please tell me it is somehow possible??

Do you have OS install disks, if so there should be a disk for setting up a hard drive (Disk Tools)? If the drive you have does not have an Apple ROM in it then you will need a 3rd party formatting utility to partition the drive (Silverlining is one, a hacked mac disk tools would be another), then you can use the OS install disks to install the OS on any of the <2GB partitions.

I have a LC3 with a 4.5GB HD partitioned into 3 partitions (.5gb OS, 2 x 2gb data drives).

Yea, I have the 7.5.3 Install on a bootable Zip drive and the 7.5.5 update. It has the disk tools, which I was using but it kept telling me when I used Apple HD SC or what ever that it can't find a proper SCSI disk. The HDD is probably formatted for a PC and probably does not have the ROM you were talking about.

So once I have silverlining it will put the ROM on the HDD?

This setup sounds perfect and just what I will do. Just need to get the ROM on the HDD first

Also where can I find Silverlining, I just scanned Macintosh Garden but to no avail?

The ROM is just code apple made OEM suppliers put on so that Apple could tell it was a drive purchased from Apple and not any other companies drive.

3rd party formmating utilities will work on any SCSI drive you connect tot hat machine, or you can just use a hacked apple installer (should be a reference to it on this site if you search) that will work on any HD.

I have been searching for one of these installers but can't seems to find anything, nor the hacked apple installer. If anyone has one of the installers and could email it to me my email is bikeman1010@gmail.com or provide a possible link. I really need to get this hard drive up and running because the one thats in there now, the motor is failing. 8-o

I found a post that had a link to Lido. I'm sitting here waiting for it to format now. I'll Keep you guys posted! :)

P.S. How long should I give it? It is probably going to take a while huh because it is a big drive?

A low level format of a larger drive on an old slow system could take hours. Make sure the cursor still moves when you move the mouse so you know the system hasn't locked up.

Ok so the formatting is over now its time to partition. I just ran into a little bit of trouble. Once it finished formatting I used Apple HS SC to partition the drive. I had a 2gb partition showing and the rest was free space. Do I use the custom button and make the other 2gb partition using the additional disk? Or is there something else that I do to get the other 2gb to show up as separate. I also want to make a 400mb partition for the system folder. What is the best way to do this? Last but not least I need a 20mb ProDOS partition for that Apple IIe card I have been eying on ebay. I saw the ProDOS partition under custom as well but when I made the partition it never showed up?

The problem is they arn't showing up only the 2gb partition is showing up after it was initialized. (Or should I say mounting to the desktop) But yea I will do them all at the same time so I don't loose files and all that malarkey.

What is this AU/X Slice?
