ImageWriter to USB

After all these years I find myself printing more and more on on the old reliable, ImageWriter II via zip disks to my LC III. I don't have to worry about buying more ribbons for years and have a good supply of tractor feed paper that will last me forever. For school, I have to make copies of everything that I pass in, hence tons printing. They keep records of everything for five years, don't ask me why. But although print quality and speed isn't something that I am worried about, reliability and not having to worry about my printer is. My inkjet printer that I have been using over the network at my house is the Kodak ESP 7. The thing is great and all with black ink only $10 a cartrige and color $15, everyone in the house uses it and I never know how much paper we have or how much ink is left. I, on the other hand am the only one that uses my ImageWriter II and it prints wiring schematics and school work wonderfully.

Here is my question, I came across the Linux Ghostscript program that will allow my Macbook running 10.6 to print to an ImageWriter II.

My problem is the Mini Din 8 serial connection. I need a USB Mini din 8 adapter. I have two ideas, one I'm sure will work but is expensive and the other is cheap and wanted to know if you guys think it will work.

The expensive solution I found is this http://www.nextag.com/Tripp-Lite-USB-Twin-520401006/prices-html

and the cheap solution is this http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-SERIAL-RS232-DB9-9-PIN-ADAPTER-CABLE-PDA-GPS-/220302384107?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item334b0b9beb

connected to this http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=mini+din+8+to+db9&hl=en&cid=457790475180085657&ei=NTN9TMqzCJzE2AT_hMX4Dw&sa=title&ved=0CCUQ8wIwAjgA#p

My question to you guys is will the cheap solution work just as well as the expensive solution? Thanks guys
