The @%$^^&%$:">><@ PSU on my IIsi just donned a vest made by DuPont and did the "NOT SO SMART BOMB" SUICIDE GIG!!!! That little RAT B@$T@RD tried to take my Apple Portrait Display to HADES WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just a bit calmer now . . . the 8500 proved that the APD is still waking up on the green side of the sod. But I had quite a scare when my 475 (currently relegated to supporting the APD at a jaunty angle) and 6400 couldn't coax it to display anything! I figured it was a goner for sure, but in retrospect, the 6400 Video is probably too intentionally lamed to drive an APD and the 475 was probably just stubbornly insisting that it wants its PRAM Battery replaced . . .

But the poor IIsi MoBo very likely went to Valhalla while its INSUFFERABLY EVIL PSU will endure eternal and fitting damnation in Dante's Inferno! > :(

Time for a new thread, but my SE/30 Killer Project is on unfortunately shoved to the back-burner VERY shortly after its inception . . . :'(

Maybe I'll gut that PSU like a freakin' fish and do an ATX PSU Lobotomization on that evil lil' F***3R! }:)

Back to the point of this thread: does anybody know if a Quadra 700/IIci PSU will mate up with the IIsi MoBo for testing purposes? I'm assuming that I'll need to take the IIsi MoBo out of its case due to the height of the side.

Meanwhile I'll crack the IIsi PSU case and check for any obviously failed components.

Well, you could replace the bad chopper MOSFET, its associated resistors, the line fuse, and the bad capacitors.

and hope like HELL the drive IC didnt die. :)

I've rebuilt power supplies in infocus projectors that literally explode in your face. it will be working one minute, next minute you see fireworks, snap crackle pop and dead.

Yes. I've used a IIsi power supply to test IIci, Q700, PM7100 logic boards before. Out of the case is necessary as you surmised.

Thanks, Trag, that'll be my next step!

So far:

Opened up the PSU and only discovered the lingering scent of magic smoke. :-/

Replaced the LC475's PRAM Bat with the new one from the IIsi and it works. The 475 is again happy with me, driving the APD beautifully at 16bit GS, without complaint.

Tested the Full Height IBM Q700 drive (that I'd been using in the IIsi) in the LC 475 and it's fine.

Found my extra PAS 16 inside the LC475, so that made me happy!

So good!)

Either because I goofed or because the hacks I'm doing to this IIsi are directly applicable to, if not cribbed directly from, the SE/30 projects on gamba.

I'm trying out a more elegant inter-board connect system for utilizing multiple IIsi/SE/30 PDS cards in either machine with the NuBus adapter/Radius Rocket thrown into the mix for good measure. [}:)] ]'>

It took a zappin' but it's not yet crappin' out!

Strange test lash-up, but I had severe time constraints and wanted to git'er done today!

The IIsi LIVES!!!!! [:D] ]'>

Now I just need to do some Illustrator work to show the planned layout for the new interconnect hack from end-on as was done in the gamba SE/30 diagram. After that's done, I guess I'll move the discussion to hacks.

This is sorta strange, because this thread started out as a response to a post in Mac II, Quadra & Centris and I must have thought I was moving this one to hacks . . .

. . . OOPSIE!!!! :-I

I saw an auction for a IIsi/SE/30 PSU on eBay today, are they interchangeable? :?:

Does anyone have the pinouts of the power connector? :?:

Here's another shot of the Test Rig lashup:

Here's a pic of the final long term testing lashup:

As it turns out, there's just enough slack in the cable inside the Q700 PSU to allow the connector to be set into the bottomplate of a gutted IIsi PSU. I find the jaunty angle of the Q700 PSU on its overly short leash rather appealing. Elegant it ain't, but it WORKS! [:D] ]'>

I'll be using this kluge while I'm testing a IIsi setup that'll be considerably more versatile than the gamba SE/30 setup.

We'll see if it works! }:)

Grotesque, yes, but I prefer the term inelegant. :p ;))

This is mostly due to the fact that I have the extra power of the Q700 PSU readily available for testing the hack before the need arises to hack some new power source into whatever internal space remains for the increased power & cooling budget.

And I have an additional pair Q700 PSUs remaining for backup! }:)
