IIcx dead

I recently acquired 2 IIcxs. Both completely dead. Plug them in, press the botton, and absolutely *nothing* happens. I will search, but if anybody has some quick pointers on where to start, it would be appreciated.

Have you left them for a while connected to the mains to power on?

Have you tried the keyboard poweron button?

Have you disconnected floppies and hard disks?

Is there a clicking noise? Any signs of capacitors leaking? Swap power supplies between units.

I will try disconnecting everything. How long should I leave it plugged in before I try to start it?

Say an hour? The idea is to make sure the circuitry that detects the poweron button has enough power to do the job.

Well, I guess it's been plugged in an hour, maybe a little more. The only thing installed is the power supply and ram. Still nothing. The left side of the power supply is a little warm, and there is a very slight "electric" smell. I'm taking that positively. Will try a a little longer.

Unless it's burning. :)

I would take everything apart, then reassemble based on the poor contact theory.

Otherwise we may betalking re-doing the capacitors ( something I've not had to do ), any sign of leakage?

It's alive! I unplugged and replugged it one more time, hit both reset buttons in front, now it's at the "?" prompt - of course, there are no drives installed. Let's reinstall the drives and caddy and see what happens... I'm a little excited.

Meh - but it's got the "trickle bug"? It clicks and the keyboard LEDs blink. I can only turn it on by plugging it in and hitting the reset button. I'll look up the procedure for fixing that, hopefully it's not to bad... Still, it is alive!
