How you download is also of interest, as in, what type of machine, what software, and how files are moved between machines, if applicable. It very much matters with old mac files because they're easy to corrupt in a number of ways sadly.

I know it sounds like the simple bit, but it is a major issue :)
So I have been using my Windows laptop and I just tried both the apple computers I own. (Modern ish) I download from Mac garden (the exact link jmacz provided) and simply tell the OS to save directly to the mounted SD card to lessen transfers. From there I eject the SD card and input it into my IIci. Next I used the bluescsi SD transfer tool to get the file onto the IIci and it still a rather large file. It takes a bit to transfer. Next I unstuff the .sit and you know the story from there. All I get is a folder with 90mb and stuff it takes a second to do it's job which I know is not normal.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Hmm, not sure why you're having issues. Not sure if it's that bluescsi transfer tool or something else going on?

As @Phipli mentioned, it's better to have a binhex file but unfortunately, the person who uploaded this particular archive left it in stuffit format. But that said, I've had no issues with this file. In fact, I just tried both of the methods I normally use to transfer files to my Mac and it worked without issue. Steps:

Process #1:
  • Downloaded to a modern MacBook using the same link I provided (the first #1 download link on the page).
  • Use the hfsutils command line tools to hmount my disk image (on SD) and then hcopy the file into it then humount it.
  • Insert the SD card into my Mac.
  • Decompress using Stuffit Expander 5.5.
Process #2:
  • Download is the same as above.
  • Use scp to transfer the stuffit file to my in house FTP server (synology).
  • Use Fetch on my Mac to download the stuffit file as a binary (yeah, I know Phipli said don't use FTP for raw stuffit files but it's working for me).
  • Decompress using Stuffit Expander 5.5.
Both processes worked (just tested them) and results in a large folder structure containing all the drivers and many more files including even a ROM image.

Anyhow, I've attached just the 2.7.5 CDEV below in a binhexed stuffit 1.5.1 archive. Hope it works for you.

Jmacz,

You are a gentleman and a scholar. I was able to download the file you attached on my Mac, straight to the SD card shared folder and then onto my IIci and transfered using the bluescsi to SD transfer tool. Everything works as expected and I am one happy guy as a result.

Guess the lesson here is that .sit files are finicky. Your .sit.hqx is definitely the correct way to share files 🤷

In any case, wanted to thank you guys for the help. It was a pleasure.

Thanks!!
