Ghost in the machine?

Greetings,
I've acquired a Power Mac G4 running OSX 10.4.
This machine has a working Zip 250 drive and a DVD-ROM drive.
With a Zip disk inserted and mounted and completely usable an odd thing occurs when I select eject from the menu with ONLY the Zip drive selected.
The Zip disk ejects as it should, but the DVD-ROM drive ejects as well.
This occurs whether there is a disk in the DVD-ROM drive or not. The DVD-ROM drive works fine on it's own.

Ghost in the machine or is the 'eject everything' normal behavior?

For those of you thinking the obvious, you were right. No ghost.
A simple conflict set up by incorrect jumper positions on the drive select pins.
I tried 'cable select' on both and it worked. I tried 'master' and 'slave' on each and that worked too.
Boo.
