Floppy Drive works but doesn’t…

Another Gremlin in my Mac Classic.
The Classic boots from the FDD no problems and after booting the internal HDD mounts and is visible on the desktop along with the bootable FDD.
However, when I boot from the HDD, and then insert a floppy, the disk is accepted and whirs, but it never shows on the desktop. It is not ejected and remains in the drive until I shut down or restart and then it is ejected.
I’ve cleaned and checked the FDD for issues but nothing is obvious.
Odd that the floppy would work as a boot drive but not be visible or usable when the HDD is used to boot.
Any direction is appreciated.
Thanks

Is there any software installed on the hard drive that has a security feature, preventing use of the floppy drive?

If you are running System 7 on the hard drive, hold down the shift key to boot with extensions off, then try using the floppy drive. If it works, then there's either an extension or a control panel that's blocking access to floppies when the computer is running normally.

Thanks volvo242gy. I tried the shift boot-extensions off suggestion with no success.
But....
I went ahead and booted with my 6.08 floppy disk and formatted the hard disk drive.
Then, I did an install of 6.08 and rebooted.
Bong and Boot, et Voila!
Everything works great. FDD and HDD are visible and mount correctly.
The hard disk drive I was using had System 7 on it and was from an LC I had lying around.
Your assumption that something on that HDD was preventing the FDD from mounting was, I believe, correct.
Thanks again!

Not a problem. Glad you were able to get it fixed. Added benefit is that the computer will feel faster.
