Gamma Issues

So I use my Macintosh II quite a bit, and have System 6.0.8 and System 7.1 booting on it. Whenever I boot up, in either system, it has a gamma setting that is overall darker. However it readjusts the gamma to a lighter setting sometimes, the most notably when I close Photoshop or when an After Dark screensaver is used. Afterwards it keeps this lighter gamma, which I actually prefer, however I find it really annoying that it doesn't set that gamma on startup. To add to this, in the monitor control panel, in the option menu, there's the ability to change the gamma to a setting, "uncorrected gamma" (the only setting available), which reverts it back to what it looks like on startup. But when I unselect the "uncorrected gamma" setting, it doesn't revert back to the lighter gamma it was before, and doesn't even allow me to revert it back by doing the same thing I would use to get the lighter gamma on startup, closing Photoshop or using a screensaver. Rather I have to restart the entire computer. Is there a way to have both systems automatically use the lighter gamma on startup?
