Freecycle Haul!!

I posted a macintosh stuff wanted ad, just to see what I could get. I got one spam message, then someone replied to me, saying:

Have some older Legacy stuff including printers (posted here last week), keyboards, mice, 5400, LCs...etc...
I was excited, because the 5400 and 5500 are the creme de la creme of AIO macs, next to the G3 AIO (the imacs are OK, but with no expansion slots, they lose points). However, upon responding, they replied with a detailed list:

To start, 10 Apple ColorStylewriter 2500, 2 Apple LaserWriter printers, 3- Apple PowerMac 5260/100...the 5400s turned out to be these, a couple of LCs, 2-All-In-Ones, and a number (maybe 3 or 4) Blue and White Power Macs...plus a lot of spare parts.
i don't know what you intend to do with these, but we have them sitting around ready to be thrown out and I'd rather see someone use them if they can.
The 5260 is the opposite end of the barrel. Like dan knight, I hate the x200 macs. But I will take it anyways, see what I can do with it. THe LCs are nice, because both my LC and LC III are dead. The B&Ws I can use for spare parts, or part them out, and when they say all in ones, they could mean G3 AIOs, or some 5000 series, or even a CC or compacts!!

Now I am just waiting for an address so I can make out a map and head out. Hope all this fits in my saturn wagon.

I am yet to ever see a computer on Freecycle
I actually think it has to do with the fact most people don't think old computers are useful. A 15-year-old TV is still "good", all it has to do is display a decent image and people are happy. What would anyone do with a 15-year-old computer though? We may have the answers but many people have no clue. So it takes specifically requesting these old computers before people realize there is someone out there who does have a use.

Our local freecycle has a better variety but electronic things are almost entirely TVs or appliances (sometimes a computer monitor), almost no computers of any sort. And plenty of baby/kid junk of course. I haven't had the room or gas money till recently to try putting out a request but will give it a shot soon.

he, just do what I did and put up a macintosh stuff wanted ad, see what you get, and you might luck out like I did.

Oh yeah, I did not pick it up yesterday, because they are at a school, and they let out at 3:10. I might do it today, but I have a doctor's appointment at 1:30, and something else before that, so I dunno if I can make it, so maybe tomorrow, but I WILL get this haul.

boy, did I luck out:

I did find a 5400/120 PowerMac, by the way, along with 4 or 5-5120/100s, 2-LCs, and some more printers. I also have an Apple Scanner, if you are interested and Apple software too...not knowing what your plans are, I thought I might let you know what is here.
so there is a 5400. I also looked it up, the 5400 and the 5500 are about on the same level. Sure, the 5500 has Rage IIc graphics, and is faster, but the 5400 has logicboard RAM and can hold a little more (128mb in the 5500 vs. 136mb in the 5400), plus there is a PC compatibility card!

I am not sure what I am going to do with all of this yet, but the 5400 will be put in to use as a System 7.6.1 machine most likely, and I can now match printers to macs. Something I have none of right now. And an apple scanner aint exactly the most common thing in the world. Last time I ever saw one was at my old high school hooked to a beige G3, either a 600/27 or a 1200/30. I hope it is one of those, or at the very least a regular color OneScanner.

Tomorrow just can't get here fast enough!!

A 5xxx machine can easily be turned into a 5400 or 5500 with a motherboard swap. I made a beast of a 5400 from an old 5200 I had lying around and a 6400 motherboard I bought and slid in. A good upgrade for the 5400/5500 boards is a L2 cache card, it really made a noticable difference on my machine. Maxing out the RAM is worth it too.

Alright, I am back, time to count my dead and wounded. I only got like half of what they had, but I can come back, and next year the school will be switching to windows machines, so there are labs of B&W G3s and eMacs I can take. Plus he mentioned a G5, but I dunno yet. He had a lab full of old macs, a CC with a back painted orange, a IIgs with a joystick for gaming, and a 6x00 with the side painted green. Anyways, here is what I got:

-Apple II with green color monitor and 2 floppy drives (original, non enhanced model)

-2x Apple IIgs Woz editions, no drives, and looks to have cards harvested.

-a Powerbook 3400c, unknown specs, and it refuses to boot off the CD and has 9.1 installed that keeps crashing. Immaculate condition with external battery charger and a second battery

-Wallstreet G3 with 500mhz upgrade (upgrade card has the box), no drives, but I think I can get it working.

-iBook G3 dead lobo, no airport, no RAM, and top is painted black. Original specs say 500mhz 192mb ram, 10gb CD, modem.

-2x newertech G3 upgrade cards, in box, for the PCI power macs, I think 500mhz each

-G3 AIO unknown specs.

-LC 550, unknown specs

-a bin of apple mice, some I, some II.

-Appledesign keyboards up the wazoo, more coming

-Color Stylewriter 2500, and 2400, pulled ink tanks from all the other ones.

-A gateway AMD athlon tower, unknown specs, and missing RAM.

-A tub of RAM

-a Acer box full of older hard drives. Largest one I found was a 20gb, but most are 1.6 apple firmwares, some smaller.

-Mac OS X 10.0.3 with binder

2 B&W G3s, part machines, ZIFS and RAM removed, one has the non ATI rage video card with S-video and composite imputs, one has a broken handle, both missing drive faceplates

-several boxes of cables, manuals, and other bits.

-an original Imagewriter for the II, and a couple laserwriter selects and personals

-A couple iBook keyboards with just the piece I need for mine

what was left behind:

-5 5260s, but I pulled mobos and HDs

-A 5500/120

-several more apple printers

-a HP laserjet III

-an LC 550

-tonnes of apple keyboards

-some IBM and dell monitors

phew. That was so worth the 33 minute drive, and I think I will go back next week for the rest.

Now to just get the 3400 to boot the CD drive...
