Free fan control utility

Are there any free fan control utilities for the aluminum powerbooks? I've found one for the MBP, but nothing for the G4's except for two that you have to pay for before you can download them.

G4FanControl was free, but last time I checked the developer wants money for it. Other than that I haven't found any fan control utilities for the PowerPC G4 mac portables.

I wish I still had the file but alas my external drive containing the file borked on me.

Hi,

I still have G4FanControl 0.5 (the freeware one) and it worked very well on an iBook G4 with heat issues

There seems to be no way of uploading attachments here, so if you pm me with an email address I can send it to you

Cheers :)

'Quadraman', G4FanControl on way

By the way, a previous recipient reports it also works on a G3 iMac

Cheers :)

Just so everyone knows, the 0.5 version is a little quirky under Leopard. It is very hard to get the settings just right because when you mouse over and click the slider bars start to migrate out of the window and the window can't be resized. It's very hit or miss requiring the program to be shut down and restarted to change the settings if you don't get them right the first time. It works, but is just exasperating to use. Earlier versions of OS X may not have this issue.

Hello,

Apparently Hugh is no longer on this forum. Can anybody that he sent the g4fancontrol 0.5 to please send me a copy? PM me and I'll send you my email to send it to. Thanks.

That's G4FanControl 0.5. Under Leopard the UI itself is pretty useless (although you may have better luck), otherwise the command line version is included if you don't mind using the Terminal a little. The command line version works fine under 10.5. Perhaps when I have some free time i'll try writing a new UI for it.
