I do wish there was a way to strip IE out since I'll never use it but what can you do.

95lite/98lite is where it's at for stripping out IE and other non-essential apps.  I used to run 98lite setting up crappy machines for friends/family (which helped performance considerably on lowly machines), but now in a retro sense IE is useful to have on any retro computer though unless you are really tight on HD and RAM space.  I'm not bothering to use it now.

Later versions of w95 integrated explorer with IE so it can't be removed without problems. Some people did figure out how to ditch the early IEs from 95.

My point was that the earlier lightweight W95 is good for original Pentium machines with low ram and slow CPU and still plays games fine. IE pre version 6 is pretty much useless anymore (heck the version on Win7 sucks enough I use firefox)
Well I mean, even though it's a Pentium 100 the previous owner stuck 80MB of RAM in it so it runs pretty good.

For 95 C, you can modify setup to not install IE by simply deleting the IE setup files (I've done it, so I know). Windows setup will complain bitterly, but 95 as a whole will install successfully. However, if you want IE without all the webby desktop business (you want to keep the simpler 95 Explorer UI), just delete the .cab's related to the Active Desktop Update (or whatever it's called; I don't remember anymore).

As I said earlier, 95 C without IE is identical to 95 B.

Wow, dusting this one off as I finally bought something Mac again. Took one last trip to Kemner's (as I doubt I'll be back there before he goes out of business and picked up a pair of Mac Pluses, one of them being effectively free.

This one came with the keyboard, it's a pretty typical early Mac Plus (manufactured in 1987 according to the serial number) and actually came with a keyboard, which is why I made sure to pick it up. It powers on but the picture is off center and the floppy drive is jammed in some way that I physically can't insert a disk. There's also something loose inside the case, I hope it's nothing important.

The other Plus is a converted 128k according to its serial number. Unfortunately it doesn't work at all, it doesn't even power up. I'll have to open it up and probe with my multimeter to see if the PSU is dead.

After about 2 weeks of waiting my G3 Blue & White finally got the CPU upgrade it needed and deserved in the form of a 500MHz Sonnet G3 ZIF from Hong Kong. Now to find a video card upgrade...

Got some free books and software at VCF East over the weekend, including these neat old Mac books. Sadly the 1989 AppleTalk book I also got is so ruined from water damage (not sure if it was from the pouring rain yesterday or pre-existing) that it's basically trash. That Microsoft Works package was also free despite the $10 price tag and is for Mac, I'll have to try it out on the IIfx.

A few days ago a former coworker texted me saying he had found an old Mac basically in someone's trash, and it turned out to be a Power Macintosh (yes, Power Macintosh, not Performa) 5400/200. He brought it over here today so we could see if it worked and it did, it had a fully functional install of 7.6.1. Much to my surprise, he just...gave it to me, saying he didn't really have anything he could do with it. I couldn't pass it up, so now I'm the proud owner of a 5400 I guess!
