ethernet 10/100 100/100 Quadra 650 problem

I bought a modem/router with ethernet ports and wireless.

I connected it to my Quadra 650.

The display on the 650 started flickering/rolling.

Is there any reason for the two to be connected?... the 650's display and the ethernet connection.

I know the 650 is only 10/100 whilst the modem router is 100/100 but is that likley to effect the 650's display?

modem router is dlink dsl2640B

Does it stop when you unplug or turn off the router? I'm thinking it could be something to do with interference coming from either the router or its associated cabling (which may or may not be shielded properly)

Also, the Quadra 650 actually only supports 10Mbps ethernet with its onboard ethernet connection - only way to get 10/100 is via a very rare 10/100 NuBus ethernet card. Thankfully however, unlike some third party ethernet cards (such as those put out by Asante), the Quadra's ethernet port has no trouble connecting directly with an autonegotiating network device and running at 10Mbps, which is a Very Good Thing™.

I'd be concerned that the router is faulty, and might be either ungrounded or squirting mains power into the LAN. That would be a Bad Thing

yeah,.... 10Mbps is understood & I thought the 650 & the router would just negotiate with each other...

It should be a good one, bought it new from a trusted retailer.....

Oh well, it's switched off just now.... can't get my pc to work with it either (known pc issues need sorting)

If your PC's having problems with it, maybe it is dodgy - you might want to think about taking it back and getting a replacement...duds can happen, even when you're dealing with the best manufacturers and retailers. :)
