Daystar Genesis MP

Courtesy a relative who was traveling from near St. Louis and was able to pick it up for me, I'm now the proud owner of a Daystar Genesis MP.

The machine has 512MB of RAM, a 20GB and 30GB hard drive, a Jaz drive, and CD-Rom and floppy. It's running 9.1

Sadly, according to the previous owner the original 4-way processor card "flaked out long ago" and has been replaced with a Sonnet G3 card running at ~337 Mhz.

The big RasterOps monitor came with as well.

The machine was at a pre-press/printing shop for it's working life, and comes to me working great, and with some extra SCSI cards, 100MB Ethernet, and a MacTell video card.

I'd like to track down either the two-way or 4-way processor card, and run it as a BeOS machine, but I'm still pretty tickled that I've finally found one of these guys

Not having that rare CPU card is a bummer. How solid is that case?

Seems like the original owner put an Apple sticker over the Daystar name. Pretty funny.

So everything runs well?

Yes - there was a white Apple sticker that was applied over the Daystar logo. I'm afraid it's going to take a session with Retrobrite to make that silhouette go away.

The case is a beast - multiple fans, solid construction and room for what looks like 5 internal SCSI drives. It's bigger than a Q950 or G5/MacPro tower, and about as heavy. It's also filthy inside. Lots of dust. I'm waiting for sustained temps above zero before I take it outside for a good cleaning

The onboard 10-baseT port is marked "dead", but there's an Asante network card in it as well, so no worries as far as getting it on the 'Net.

The machine runs great - I want to image the HD to make sure I have any necessary drivers/extensions/etc. backed up, and then I'll likely do an OS re-install.

I forgot to add that I owned the exact same RasterOps monitor back in the day. It was a favorite of our female cat because of it's large, warm sleeping area on top

Awe, man. A 4 CPU Daystar woulda been nuts. I'm with you on the BeOS. I really wanted to do that.

My ultimate dream machine, though, is a MaxxBoxx Tsunami 960/800 MP. 4 x 200MHz 604e processors in a stylish case.
