DaynaFile - 5.25 inch floppies on a Macintosh.

The DaynaFile is a wonderful piece of lost technology for the Macintosh.  It's an enclosure that houses PC floppy disks drives (most importantly, 5.25 inch) and connects them to a Macintosh over SCSI.  I looked for one of these for a long time, and was lucky to find a unit that was in very good condition.  There isn't a lot of information out there about these devices, and I couldn't find a video anyone had ever made demonstrating them, so I made one myself.  I hope you guys enjoy this.

I also have one of these, picked it up almost 20 years ago, minus the power supply..... can you send me the details of what you're using to power it?

Rats.  I also have a DaynaFile without power supply, but I also don't have 50 bucks kicking around at the moment.  Looked around for one several years ago without success; looks like I'll probably be SOL again by the time I scrape the money together.

Oh, cool.  I didn't even think that the 360k drive might read Apple II disks.

Have you tried imaging an Apple II 5.25" disk with Disk Copy 4.2 and seeing if they'll work in an emulator?

Would be a neat experiment, but I don't have any real Apple II disks.  It would probably image them as MFM ProDos disks, which the emulator would not be expecting.

If any one needs the System 7 driver for this (I've tested it through 8.6 so far), here is the link.

You would only need the DOSMounter control panel if you're on a Mac without PC Exchange, as it does the same thing.  I think PC Exchange became built into the Mac OS in 7.5.  It didn't work at all in Mac OS 8 and higher, and was buggy in 7.6.  Just use PC Exchange.

The little DayaFile extension is the most important part, allowing the Mac to use the drives.
