D is for Daystar?

Take a look at This Ebay item. Scroll down to the third picture showing the back of the case. There is a fancy "D" carved into it. I have no idea what this might mean (other than the idea that D is the first letter in daystar, despite it not matching any current or former logo).

I can say however that some time ago I picked up a free but non-functional Mac 128k, and it had an identical "D" carved into the front. Any ideas?

I think this is some sort of university insignia.... In the same photo, there is a tag that is bearing D***** University.

It looks a security identifier of some kind like how they brand cattle to show which rancher owns them. If an upgrade manufacturer wants the presence of their product to be known they usually just include a sticker in the box that you can slap on yourself after the upgrade is done.

Actually that "D" stands for "Daylight Induced Yellowing." 8-o Seriously, I've not seen an SE/30 that yellowed in quite some time. Must have had it's back to a window with no drapes!

Yup, I read about Drexel being the first university to purchase Macs for students soon after I saw the auction. Didn't see those Usenet threads though. Thanks Dog Cow!
