Hi folks

I got a Cube today!

Here's a list:

- PowerMac G4 Cube 450Mhz, 128MB ram, 20GB hard drive, DVD, ATI rage 128 Pro

- 15" Apple Cinema Display

- PowerMac G4 speakers

- Pro keyboard and mouse

A complete set as you see, with a few shortcomings though:

- low specs, will need to upgrade those (RAM, HD, airport), Easy to upgrade?

- On the bottom of the cube, there's one USB port not functioning? Is this a know problem? Could this be fixed?

- The USB amplifier cable is loose, can this amplifier be opened to fix this?

The Cube's running Mac os 9.2

I paid € 250 for the complete package, don't know if that's a good price. I guess it's a bit to high, but these complete cube packages are pretty rare to find in europe (belgium)

Yikes! A little pricy IMHO however I do not know the market there.

I have read that one USB can go on the Cube. I would do a google to see what the problem is and if it is fixable. Otherwise, time to invest in a Hub.

I picked up a cube a short while ago and they aren't that hard to upgrade. I thought taking one apart would be a lot harder than it was. I was fortunate that the day after picking up the cube, I spotted an ad for a digital audio G4 wit a 1 ghz processor, 1.5 gb RAM, 120 gb HD and 8500 AGP card for $30. Instant upgrade for the cube. You were fortunate, picking up a cube with DVD

Congrats on the Cube! That's a fair price for a complete system in decent cosmetic condition. Upgrades are pretty easy. 1.5 GB RAM (3 x 512MB PC 133), 120 GB hard disk, or larger with a patch in NVRAM, and so on. G4 CPU upgrades are getting hard to find as are original Airport cards. Mosey over to cubeowner.com and read through the FAQs. There are Cubes there with all sorts of mods and upgrades.

The USB cord on the amplifier tends to pull out and look unkempt, but the case is sonic-welded together. I pried mine open without damage, but there's no guarantee yours would split nicely along the seam as mine did. Pictures at cubeowner.com in the speakers section where I described upgrading the amp, speakers, and building a cube subwoofer.
