Compact Macs On the Web- Got Some Questions

What's the deal with the Asante driver? The one on Asante's legacy downloads website is a 1.4MB image file -- which of course can't be copied onto an 800K disk for the Mac Plus.

Alternatively, over at Jag's house, there's an Asante driver:

Now, I've copied the driver (and AppleShare, AppleSharePrep, AppleTalk, EtherTalk, Network, and Responder) into my System folder on OS 6.07. Then, in the Chooser I can see AppleShare and I can turn ON AppleTalk -- but that's where I am stuck ...

Use this to segment it.

Makes life easier if you have a HD20 or external FDD for the Plus.

Some of those bits (AppleShare Prep, TokenTalk etc) are just files, but the Installer makes certain Resource modifications to the System or similar to make them work properly. I used 6.0.8 and NSI 1.4.5 which made mine work, somewhat. (Another example of stuff not working right is AppleShare 3.7.4, it will bomb upon loading control panels if you just drag & copy instead of using the Installer.)

EDIT: If that's a .image file, you have to use Disk Copy 6.3.3 or similar to load it. (4.2 might be able to do it) If you need help with that let me know.

Right, Disk Copy 6.3.3 got the Asante EtherTalk Installer.imag (1.4 MB) to load right up into a mounted disk image file (transferred it to the Plus' external hd via a powermac 6100).

Ran the Asante installer on the Plus with OS 7.5.3, now just have to figure out what software is needed to connect to the internet.

I just got my Mac SE with System 7.0.1 on the net with MacTCP and sending / receiving files via FTP using Fetch. It's working out great. I figured while I was at it, I'd throw a browser on there just for fun. I tried iCab, but it complains that it needs 3.9M to run. My SE is maxed at 4M. Anyone know of a thinner browser that won't use so much RAM?

I have been trying for months to get my Asante EN/SC to work with my Macintosh plus to no avail. I have the adapter hooked up to a 10BaseT hub and I can even receive packets in the troubleshooter. But when I bring up Macweb it acts as though there is no connection; error 500.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
