Care of hard drives

In storage I have a 20mb hard drive that's never been used. It was one of a bunch of sealed service parts boxes I got from an Apple dealer a few years ago. What's everyone's opinion, is it better to let a drive sit until you feel like using it or is it better to spin it up every now and then?

So that the main bearing doesn't seize, I would fire it up for a little while to prevent this
