ATTO SCSI Card and Jaguar

I'm trying to install Jaguar on my Beige G3/266 MT. Mac OS 9 recognized the 9GB SCSI drive attached to the ATTO SCSI card and formatted the drive as MacOS Extended. When starting the OS X installer it sees the internal IDE drive but not the SCSI one.

Any ideas on getting it to see the SCSI drive?

Currently the Beige has a Rage128 PCI card, a USB 1.1 card with a VIA chipset and the ATTO PCIExpress SCSI card.

I guess that I could attach the drive to the internal SCSI controller but that would slow it down considerably.

I set up the drive with the built-in SCSI. While it works, it would be nice to get the ATTO card working.

According to System Profiler under 9.22 it is an ATTO PCIExpress SC SCSI card. System Profiler won't run under Jaguar for some reason. That model does not appear under the list of discontinued products on ATTO's web site. If memory serves me right this card came out of a 9600/300.

Somewhere in my stash of parts I have another ATTO SCSI card from a Beige G3 MT and an Adaptec 2940UW-series card that came from a Mac.

SCSI support in OS X truly sucks. I've never got it anything other than the internal SCSI on a PowerMac (and at times that's fought back) working.

I bought (at no insignificant cost) an ACARD SCSI card for my B&W that is supposedly OS X certified. it works but doesn't boot OS X (boots OS 9 just dandy). I have a 2940, dunno if that works. I at once stage imported a ATTO card similar to yours from OWC and that didn't work in OS X at all. I had to send it back to the USA for a refund.

I pretty much wrote off any chance of getting bootable SCSI and OS X at any decent speed.

for SCSI cards I´d always get a cheap 2940UW or U2W and flash with a mac ROM with adaptecs ROM updater. works great in both OS9 and OSX (tried 10.3 so far). it also boots OS 9 and you can get it to boot OSX as well with some fiddling and if you´re lucky.

I have many 2940UW cards, one 3940UW and one 2944UW (differential). Where are the ROM updaters at? So far I have not been able to find them on Adaptec's site.

EDIT: Never mind - I found them. Hopefully it will work!

I flashed one of the 2940UW cards to the v4.1 Mac ROM and have the 9.1GB drive connected to it. The card is visible, the drive isn't. System Profiler in MacOS9 shows no drive connected to the controller.

It's getting really frustrating.
