Another Macintosh Classic

Two days ago when I was scanning the local auction website I found a Macintosh Classic :D

I paid HK$250 (about US$33) and grabbed this little Mac home.

It was having a bad PSU, causing the screen so wavy. Checkerboard pattern also appear when I power on the computer. So I washed the motherboard, cleaned the case and waited...

...it still shows the checkerboard pattern until I power it on for minutes, then it booted :b&w:

The 40MB hard drive is dead and I swapped the floppy drive with my own Macintosh Classic because mine wasn't working. So now it's using a not-so-fit manual injection floppy drive...

Anyway, I just love this Mac because it can boot from ROM :D

It was quite dirty...

Cleaned and fixed :D

You could use an external floppy drive and share it between the two classics as needed. Any hardrive that you put into the classic will be faster than the original one. Nice job of cleaning it up and getting it going!

Uh, I don't have any external floppy drive... 50 pin SCSI Drives are rare to find nowadays in Hong Kong :(

I think the PSU is really weak because, well, after power off for hours, it shows the checkerboard pattern again. :(

We will see :)

The place where most of that stuff originated from and you can't find it? Thats kind of sad if you ask me. :-/

That's really quite ignorant to say. Just because it may have been manufactured there, doesn't mean it stayed there. It would have been shipped abroad.

I meant it as in there might have been an old stock somewhere.

You also need to distinguish between countries outside the US. Hong Kong (before the lease expired) was not any of Singapore nor Korea nor Japan nor Philippines nor Indonesia nor Malaysia nor China ...

Woo... haven't been here for awhile :p

Thanks for clarifying about "Hong Kong". :b&w:

Parts is rare to find nowadays... but I managed to get three 50 pin SCSI Drives few weeks ago! A 4GB, 2GB and i forgot... about 500MB. What a pity the 2GB Drive is dying... (It was used in a video editing system)

It seems that the power supply is going wrong. Probably I need to fix it or leave it - saying, put a Mac mini inside... }:)
