I just bought a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet. It was sold as working from ebay. I open it up and turn it on and BOOM! Lines allover the LCD. The LCD is fine, but it looks like some kind of connection issue. It is a 12 inch. It works well over VGA too! I just added a 250mhz CPU to it.

There are two connectors to check on those.

One is on the mid-left of the machine, under the keyboard, to the right of the PCMCIA card cage and cooling fan. It's covered mostly by the clutch cover, but if you have something small and plastic, you might be able to poke the connector back down without removing the clutch cover (though that in itself isn't too difficult if you're careful).

This cable can come loose every now and then, it's just a simple interference fit - slip on, slip off.

The other is in the display itself. It's kind of involved to check that one, and since it's clipped in, it's unlikely to have come undone during transport.

To open the display, you'll pretty much have to pull it off of the bottom of the machine, so use that opportunity to examine the LCD's flex cable for tears (while making sure not to tear it yourself!).

The 12 display is a DS 800x600 (or whatever the mac resolution is).

Are the hinges loose? Major issues with wallstreets is the 2 cables that are along the hing to the LCD get cut bu broken hinges or bad placement.

To get to the cable you need to remove the keyboard and the bezel above the keyboard. There are 2 plugs one to the left and one to the right. Make sure they are in the sockets.

You can remove the display by taking those 2 plugs out, and taking the screws out of the back under the flip down cover (2 on each side, security start type screws). The display will then pull straight up.

If the cables are damaged you are out of luck (hard to find cheap), you will need to get another assembly or a parts donor.

A 14" LCD top will fit and work fine in that unit, and give you 1024x768 too.

Generally if the lines are straight across on the LCD its broken internally.

If you want a replacement screen I still have a 12" on the shelf (top half of a wallstreet), PM me for details.
