has anyone on here heard of overclocking the bus on the 6360?
also has anyone successfully gotten the 9200 radeon to fully function with a G3 upgrade card? i never made that work on mine.

Yeah, it's the same board as the 6400, you just need to move some resistors. Perhaps add a fan (there is a fan header).

Or here

It's usually issues with ATI drivers that stop the 9200s working. Truth be told, the 9200 wasn't officially supported in OS9. It's a mess and usually takes hours of swapping drivers versions. There is "9200 drivers" download on Mac garden that doesn't actually work, that might be your issue. I feel like I uploaded my working setup here somewhere... But... If you install a 7000 instead, it will work back to System 7 and be far more reliable.

ok, im going to order a 50mhz crystal to bump the bus. start there. then i have a G3 card that i need to figure out the clocks on. after that ill move onto the video card.
in my G4 the 9200 tests pretty low in benchmarks for 2D BUT it handles 3D just fine. so i may try modding the extensions to disable 2d stuff and see if that helps loading.

See the attachments to my post here for adjusting the clock on the Sonnet L2 card. You do it by modifying the Sonnet extension. I haven't bothered, but keep meaning to.

mine is not a sonet, its a j-a-pan something or other. ill have to just reverse engineer it a bit
Ah sorry, I thought you'd said Sonnet for some reason. Just jumping to conclusions.

What is it? A Vimage / interware?

interware. its a 240. im not sure what the speed differences is from e603 to g3 at the same speed. i know newer instruction sets...

we will see.

I was just reading a review of the Interware / Vimage card by coincidence (went looking after mentioning it).

Sound on Sound say they saw a 2.51 times improvement in CPU performance in their Performa 6400/200.

Your 6360... Is a 180 isn't it? So a PPC 603ev, so you will get... about 2.79 times CPU performance improvement if you leave the bus alone.

yea, i can see that. i wish i could get either the 7000 or 9200 working. right now im using the 9200 in a dual 1.3Ghz G4 with 150mhz bus. its a strong card on 10.5.9 and 9.2.2. it blows the AGP Geforce 2 out of the water.

its nearly 75% the speed of a 8500 AGP radeon. which really surprised me on teh PCI bus.

i would love to have hte 9200 in my performa, my 4600 in my smaller G4 and my X850XTPE in the big one.

What OS version are you running on the 6360?

ill give it a try next time i get it running. that 9200 only worked in my G4 with the DVI drivers. everything else locked up. im using quake 3 time demo to test.

i think i have a 128 ssd in the 6360

i have not tried the different opengl versions, so that will be on my list.

what happens is the G3 card loads (when it does the boot process restarts, goes back to the beginning of the extensions loading) and with the rage128 it continues just fine. but with teh 9200 it just displays a desktop pattern and nothing else. its as if its a 2nd monitor with nothing on it. i cant move the mouse onto it though so i dont think its getting through boot.

The CPU in my weird 6360/6400 (Thing?) Prototype is 240MHz. Here's a pic of the placement of resistors and such.

ok, kool. im skimming ebay right now for g3 cpu's i may try swapping that 240mhz on the intergen for a 400mhz or so. we will see. im trying to find some 7455b cpu's for my qs right now. struggling.

Sorry, I wasn't implying that was the issue, I was just making sure you had them installed. Different OpenGL versions would just cause issues with specific games. Oni for example is picky, but it doesn't seem to work in 9.2 anyway.

To be honest, the 9200 isn't officially supported in Classic Mac OS. The Rage 128 (or a 7000) is a better choice by far.

Sometimes the the newest and highest spec'd isn't the best. They never work perfectly and the late versions of ATI drivers cause a stupid bug where the computer stops loading for over a minute before finally loading the desktop.

yea they are nice systems. i have a 280Mhz G3 upgrade card in mine. i took the 6300cd case i have and i put a dual 1.7Ghz G4 quicksilver into it

I always thought the 6360 was a 160MHz computer. Wish they’d sold them in the UK - they’re pretty cool and all, being the only PCI-based Macintosh in that cute LC630 form factor.
It's easy enough to create them from parts. Except for the PCI opening.
