6 months worth of stuff

Some stuff I have collected from the last 6 months or so (I've been busy for a while!):

3x Powermac G5's: 2x S1.8 and 1x D2.0. Was planning on using these as a server, but they would take up too much electricity, so now I will probably sell/give them to family.

3x 20" Apple Cinema Displays: These are keepers. I am using these to make a 3x2 (a total of 6) monitor array that I plan on using for a PM G5 and Mac Pro setup. So far, I am half way there!

17" Apple Studio Display: A near mint christmas gift. I am currently using this with a Powermac G5. I never really gave this kind of display a lot of though, but now I think that it is kind of a cool display!

Mac IIfx :O : I traded my Powermac G4 DA for this one. 32MB, 1x Floppy, and 2x Hard Drives. There is a 350MB HD in the secondary floppy bay (Which was added later in its life) and a 500MB HD in the original hard drive bay (in the back of the machine). It was used for AutoCad and other such programs for designing airplanes and parts, and was also the family's computer (one side was on one drive and the other was on the other drive). Also included was a 14" Sony Trinitron (which has a yellow picture to it), an extended keyboard (my new favorite keyboard!), original ADB Busmouse, newer ADB Busmouse 2 (probably because it was more comfortable to use), and some Nubus expansion cards. There is an Apple Video Card, a couple of RasterOps Video cards, and a Networking Card (Which almost looks like coaxial?). Hard to believe that he spent $15k+ on this system back in 1990! :ii:

Titanium Powerbook G4: This was included with the IIfx for free. 867MHz, and I believe 512MB Ram, 60GB Hard Drive, and a Combo Drive. Case is kind of beat and he said there was a video issue, so I'll probably scrap it.

Miscellaneous Accessories: A couple of PCI Video Cards (ATI Rage 128 and some other really long one that has to be installed in a PM G3 or G4), a USB Joystick, Router, a "Spaceball" (Was used for AutoCad), a bunch of cables, Manuals, etc.

iPod 3rd Gen, 10GB, iPod 4th Gen, 40GB, a SEALED Apple Presentation System, a couple of Apple Personal Modems, and a Samsung LCD: All Thriftstore finds. The iPods, APS, and Modem are pretty much collection pieces (although I actually use the iPods quite a bit). The LCD was pretty cheap ($3) and worked, so it was a good deal.

Apple IIci: Local Listing. This is my second one. It has a dead power supply. It included an Ethernet Card. Hard Drive size is unknown, but the board looks pretty good. Also came with a 13" Apple Color RGB Monitor.

Cyberpower UPS: I decided to get a small UPS (only 230W) for some small stuff. It is actually used mostly as a battery for car/camping trips. If I use Mac Minis for my servers, this may come in handy.

Questions:

-One of my Cinema Displays is giving me trouble (see post in Peripherals Section). What is wrong with it?

-Can I install a total of 4 video cards and 2 network cards in my IIfx without breaking anything? Or the PSU dying?

-What is wrong with the Trinitron? (I know most people would think to chunk it, but I think it would be cool to have).

-The "Spaceball" needs a cable. It is kind of weird because it carries both video and power on one cable (which then branches off to a power brick). Where could I get said cable? If none are avaliable, would it be possible to make one (I have the pinouts and power requirement information).

Thanks!

Right on target. It is coaxial cable but uses the BNC connector.

The yellow picture in the Trinitron is due to a number of things but when I have encountered this, it was due to one of the pins in the connector bent/broken/etc., or the cord has a kink or a crack in a wire.

In regard to the Trinitron--make sure the cables are in tight.

We used to have this problem in labs all the time with the 12" RGBs on LCs. They would develop a condition my computer teacher used to call "pink-itis" in which the screens would have a pinkish tint to them. It's really common on this particular display (in fact, when I was testing hard drives in an LC II last month, it happened to me).

Is it an Apple-branded Trinitron or an actual Sony?

If you decide to toss it, any possibility of passing it to a fellow recruit? :)

@Markyb86: Thanks, I didn't know about the BNC connector. And thanks for the monitor tip. I'm going to mess with the cable to see if I can get some better results. I'll try to post some pictures of the monitor.

@Scott Baret: It is an actual Sony monitor. The owner bought it because it supposedly had better picture than the mac monitors at the time. I forgot the model name, but I can get that later if it is any help. The cable that I am currently using isn't in great shape and actually seems really cheap for a sony product, so I will try to replace that if possible. There might be some missing pins as well, but that is probably just because it is a DB9 pin monitor that doesn't use as many pins as DB15 or VGA.

@jruschme: Well, I looked at the MoBo to try to find the problem and lets just say it was easy to find. Half of the mainboard was corroded beyond repair. The case itself is also beaten up so much (scratches, cracks, dents, bad hinges, etc) that it isn't really salvageable, either. The keyboard is missing a key, but I will keep it and try to find a replacement key, given that it works (I'm guessing that the unit has water damage, so if the keyboard was spared, I will try to fix it up). I will keep the HD and ram (If good), and I will probably sell the optical drive, LCD, trackpad, speakers, battery, etc (given it all works after the abuse). If you're still interested, shoot me a PM. I am also going to post pictures, in case anyone is interested in looking at its condition.
