2G iPod

So I was poking around craigslist yesterday, when I came across "First Gen iPod - $20." Interested, I clicked to find what appeared indeed to be a 1G iPod! E-mailed the girl, and we met up today on campus. I give her $20, she gives me a rather dirty-looking 2G 10gig iPod :D

I cleaned it up a bit, and have spent much of today restoring its looks, and it works like a charm, playing the music she left on it. There's only one bother with it - it refuses to sync with iTunes or mount on any machine I've tried it on, PC or Mac. Most of the songs she left on it are full of failure, so I'm rather eager to replace them with mine, but can't until this issue is resolved. It plays music fine, so the HDD is not dead. It seems to have an issue properly going into disk mode - when told to go, it simply flashes to the "OK to disconnect" screen and sits there. I have no idea why it might do that. Do any of you have any suggestions? Either way, it's still a nifty thing to have, but it would be completely worth it if it worked properly.

I've always wanted a really nice first generation iPod. It seems like most of them would have been thrown away by now, because new iPods are so cheap compared to the first one.

If you're comfortable opening the iPod, check the Firewire connector to see if it has broken solder joints. I seem to recall that was an issue with those older models.

I havent really messed with my iPods for a couple years, so I could be wrong.
