I'm trying to put Leopard on my G4 cube with the intent of using it as a headless iTunes player but using the open firmware hack or Leopard Assist I just get a kernel panic on boot. Is there a firmware issue with the Cube where it has to be running the last version and if so which firmware do I...
Another recycling job, mint condition, 400Mhz/128MB but wouldn't boot. Took it home, disabled the very dead PRAM battery and now it's purring away happily on 9.1. I always wanted a Pismo but wasn't prepared to pay the insane eBay prices so very chuffed with this find.
Customer wanted it disposing of so I wiped the HD and aquired it to replace my mums dual 450 Sawtooth. It's the very last of the eMacs, the 1.42 Ghz which I believe had none of the capacitor issues of the earlier models, came with only 256 megs of RAM and Tiger so I slapped in a gig of DDR 2700...
Took a trip to a customer today who's getting rid of some old Mac stuff. I love people who keep the boxes :-)
Rev A Bondi Blue iMac, it's hardly been used and even the flyback transformer seems fine.
Performa 6400, boxed with all cables/manuals, this will replace my rather beaten up one...
Just gotten my first Beige G3 from a customer who's moving house.
It started out as stock when I got it.
G3 266 Mhz - 512 L2
32 MB RAM
4 GB HDD (dead)
Rage II 2 MB
Stock CD ROM
I dug through my parts boxes and it's now suitably pimped.
G3 400 Mhz - 1 MB L2
288 MB RAM
20 GB HDD
Rage II...
I've just aquired a Beige G3 DT and cannot get classic to install, it keeps hanging at the yellow desktop with the CD pictures and "CD" writing, if I hit enter then I get a little more optical drive activity and then nothing. I've tried switching out the CPU, GPU, RAM, HD and optical drive but...
I work for a Premium Reseller and mentioned to a customer a few weeks back that I collect vintage Macs, fast forward to today and in he comes with an LC 475 + mouse/KB for me as they were going to be junked. I'm chuffed about this as I don't yet own an 040 machine. It's very yellowed and has...
Free from a friend who works for Apple who told me it was a Portable (go figure). The battery is dead but that was expected, it boots fine from the mains. I also got the original floppy drive (with the fold up front). 4MB RAM, 40MB HD. Claris Works 3, Word 4 and a few other bits of...
For my Sawtooth. I've been running the 128 pro in it since I swapped the Radeon into my 9500 and it's not very good under Tiger and the benchmarks for the Nvidia are pretty good (for an old, cheap card).
I have a few mates who work for an Apple reseller and whilst having coffee with one of them this morning he says that a client has just given him a working Macintosh Portable and do I want it! Yes please, how much? Nothing, nada, free! He's bringing it round next week. [:D] ]'>
A work colleague was about to bin a PII compaq laptop she bought for £1. Needless to say I aquired it. It doesn't start up although the battery charge light comes on when plugged in, has a DVD rom drive, unknown RAM and HD. Even if I can't get it running and load on Linux I can still...
I have a G3 upgrade in my 9500 and Gauge pro is reporting 300 mhz G3 (correct) 1MB backside L2 (yup) and... 512k motherboard based L3 ??? I can't disable the motherboard cache but I thought the crescendo extension would do that. Is this good/bad/indifferent or is Gauge Pro wrong?
For £5. It has the L2 cache, PCI ethernet and a 2MB PCI graphics card of some sort. I love the look of the 6400/6500 series, much curvier then most other old macs.
I was wondering why Deus Ex was horrible on my 9500/G3 - Radeon. Slow, graphics tearing etc. Turns out it was this nasty extension that came on the Sonnet cpu upgrade disk. Trashed it and everything runs much better.
So I was having lunch with my aunt and uncle yesterday and we started talking about my mac collection. My aunt mentions that they have some sort of mac word processor in their linen cupboard thats been there for years. A bit more probing reveals that it is a keyboard with, she thinks, a fold...
Finally got my MP 2000 online using a Lucent WaveLAN silver card. 3 hours it took me to work out the settings! Kudos to the Japanese guy for writing the drivers.
This little gem should be arriving next week. Hopefully it'll be an improvement on my p.o.s HtC Windows pda which despite being modern is very unreliable and a bitch to sync with anything, Mac or PC, and the bluetooth rarely works at all.
My latest freecycle wanted ad answered. Mac "Monitor with built in computer" plus modem, and a few extras. Here's hoping it's a 5400 [:D] ]'> but what's the bet it's a 5200 [:(!] !]'> I used to have one and they are horrible.
